My omeprazole is now giving me diarrah and getting so tired and rather spaced out on it.My doctor tried a different one,but does the same.Am now waiting for a reffal appointment with my surgeon from 10 years ago Just wondering if anyone has experienced simual after so long from their op ? Had a very nasty bug end of last year (campylobacter) which went on for weeks, had to have an special antibiotic in the end . Just wondering if it upset my whole system

Hi Mayan,

Sorry to hear you’re getting these symptoms so many years later. Have you tried cutting down on sugary foods before bed? Sugar increases acidity in your stomach.

Have you had any changes in diet?

Anti-biopics can upset your digestion and it can take a while to get back to normal. Have you tried the BRAT diet (bread, rice, apples, toast)?

You could try some activated charcoal tablets, or what worked for me was dry burnt toast in the morning. The burnt bits neutralised the acid and also slowed my digestion down. You could also try Imodium.

Keep in touch.

Jay

Thank you for your reply jay 2908 I do sometimes have custard after my evening meal, which of course is sugary I will definitely try the burnt toast As you mentioned antibiotics, I also had a very bad asthma attack earlier this year, which just wouldn't seem to clear,I had 3 different antibiotics and 3 different steroids ,so that is definitely food for thought, thank you very much Will keep you posted

The antibiotic could perhaps have messed up your gut bacteria. Have you tried probiotics? The capsule ones that have lots of different bacteria in them are best. Might be worth trying. Good luck- I hope you find a solution.

Have you heard of Easy Yo ?Home made yoghurt bursting with live probiotics. A beginners kit is around £18 then you buy packs of powder to mix (makes. A full kilo) and ferment overnight for around £3 a time.

You can buy at Lakeland/ QVC/ Amazon and it is very good for the gut.

It is as easy and the same principle to make as a baby’s bottle and comes in lots of flavours

Worth a try

hello Mayan, i take omeprazole (prilosec) too, it's already 3 months it's not helping me at all, i still have stomach pain and acid reflux and pain behind my breastbone, i was diagnosed with peptic ulcer, but i was also reading that taking omeprazole for a long period of time there are probabilities to develop other diseases, hopefully you will get better, take care.
