2nd Ivor Lewis Within 11 months

Hi, has anyone had to have a second IL surgery done within a year? My mom is currently scheduled for the second one to remove a new tumor which has regrown at the same site.

They opened her up and put a stent so she can eat. Upon opening they saw that it has spread and that the tumor is big. They have advised she starts the chemo target therapy drug imanitib asap

Thank you, she has been discharged from icu to hdu, a bit of pain but able to eat.

One is bound to query what happened in the first procedure.......were the margins adequate and was chemo administered post-op?

I experienced a second procedure but eighteen (18) years after the first; in order to remove the right lung which had a substantial tumour, probably a slow-growing metastasis from the original oesophageal carcinoma.

It was grueling owing to the amount of collateral damage already induced in the torso and, from the surgeons perspective, extremely challenging owing to the degree of adhesions left over from the first operation. It was not easy to find anyone prepared to undertake the task.
