Has anyone undergone the bravo ph study using the wireless capsule. I’m unsure if I should have sedation or a general anaesthetic. Has anyone experienced any side effects? I’m booked to go for mind next week and I’m a little overwhelmed having just had an endoscopy.

I had the bravo ph study done several months ago. I had no problem with the endoscopy and the implanation of the capsule but I did experience severe difficulty afterwards. I had heartburn, acid reflux and chest pain with every swallow of anything I ate, more than what was normal for me. I wondered if the capsule was actually doing what it was suppose to do or if it was the cause of my worsening symptoms. When the capsule dislodged itself a week later my symptoms improved or disappeared, particularly the chest pain. Everyone's different and you may not experience such problems. I am wishing you a good outcome in your upcoming procedure.
Thanks mgreen58, it’s worrying you had chest pain whilst this was embedded that’s my worst fear really. Did you eat a normal diet during this or were you careful about food? Did you opt for a general anaesthetic or sedation with throat spray?
Hi Ninja83, I consumed a normal diet initially after the procedure but because of the chest pains, I limited what I ate(two small meals) for the length of the study. After the capsule dislodged itself I resumed my normal diet. I opted for general light anesthesia, I wasn't brave enough for the throat spray but again it depends on the person. My brother has had several endoscopic procedures and he always chooses the spray and with no issues. I hope my little bit of input helps you in making your decision. Take care and keep me posted.
Hi, I’ve just had the bravo placed and the procedure went well despite me not having any sedation or throat spray. I’m a little confused though about the monitoring device. Firstly the food button light was constantly flashing green and had since stopped, so I don’t know if it’s recording. There is no ph reading on screen either. Has anyone experienced similar, or can advise how I know it’s recording?
