Pain
Hi Steve45
I had my oesophagectomy almost 9 years ago and I still have places that feel dead or numb along the site of the cut and from time to time get pins and needles. These things take time and you will eventually notice Improvement but it is still very early days for you. So in answer to your question Steve, yes what is happening to you is totally normal I would say.
Kind Regards Steve J
Hi Steve 45. It's all normal. It was a huge op and like Steve says after many years I am still numb in my ribs and every so often I get sharp pricks where the nerve endings have been cut. When I am busy I don't notice it so much. Good luck with everything, and remind yourself the niggles are better than the alternative.
Thanks Bernadette yes I did notice when on the move I don't notice it as much and yes niggles are better than the alternative.
It might be nerve system 'settling down' after the surgery and yes of course it is better than the alternative, but it is worth reporting this to the surgical team because they are interested in pain sensations and there are sometimes things that can be done to alleviate them.
My partner describes this pain too, he is 7 months post op, his GP prescribed Gabapentin which seems to have helped.
