There are lots - a burning feeling known as heartburn is he most common - a kind of burning discomfort in the throat and chest. Difficulty swallowing is another. Heartburn is incredibly common, which is why there are lots of products like Gaviscon sold for people to treat themselves. It's caused by acid from the stomach flowing back into your oesophagus and making it sore.

There is no need to be really scared if you have just developed symptoms. It is not dangerous unless it goes on for years, when it can cause permanent damage and eventually, sometimes, cancer.

However if you are over 50 and you have suddenly developed heartburn and you have had it every day for a couple of weeks, you should see your doctor.

Im 36 had heartburn for years and on lanzoparazol. Ive got anxiety issues so in last few months my stomach and acid as got worse. Swallowing isnt a problem its more like i cant breath like my stomach is being pushed up after a hour or so and burping alot it goes down the heartburn isnt horrendous but its there. Im on 30mg of lanz. I get a sore throat sometimes which ive realised is after something sweet

There are many non-drug ways to improve symptoms of reflux or heartburn. It sounds like these may help in your case.

Losing weight, if overweight, can help greatly. Some foods worsen reflux, so minimizing chocolate, caffeine, and very fatty foods can help. If you smoke, stop smoking. Sleeping with head of bed elevated can minimize reflux. Smaller meals can also help. Anxiety will worsen, so stress release or exercise may help.

Good luck, and remember that only your doctor can diagnose GERD. If your symptoms persist, see you doctor.

I have stopped smoking last year (March 1st 2014) however I have put on weight. I have recently been prescribed Lansoprazole but am confused as how to take it. (one 15mg tablet twice a day) - 30 mins to an hour before food is what they have asked me to do.

I couldn't swollow my meals. it was a tumor above the stomach

in the esophogus impeding the sphinxer muscle. internal bleeding.

Anemia and low Hemoglobin levels. Today i was in Crisis with a

Hemoglobin level of 6.2. 12 is normal. I was feeling really sick

and had a blood transfusion at the Good Samaritan Hospital in

Babylon LI NY USA. I look and feel better now after two units of

I couldn't swollow my meals. There was an intrusion revealed with

an endoscopy bleeding 3/4 of the way down my esophogus that was

diagnosed a tumor impeding my meal. Mine was diagnosed as

Cancer. Adencarcenoma with focal signet ring features. it maybe

the internal bleeding bothering me the most. I am Anemic and with

low Hemoglobin levels. I feel wiped out and have needed A+ blood

transfusions.
