Just completed week of tests with my doctor and told at my age (74) surgery not a option. No mobility left in esophagus. I am looking for people age 70-80 who have undergone esophagectomy.

Hi I had a esophagectomy at age 72 three years ago I had all the usual problems such as reflux and rapid dumping

but over time things improved and I now lead a near normal life I have to monitor the amount I eat and need to rest after meals but apart from that life is good

I had an esophagectomy for cancer aged 73. I think it's whether you are fit enough, rather than your exact age, that makes doctors decide on surgery.

Hello - my husband had oesophagectomy in Southampton 2 1/2 years ago at the age of 76, after 3 cycles of chemo, and is really fine - can eat anything (in smaller amounts) and has no real problems. But at the time, the medics weren't sure if they were prepared to operate. I think they went ahead on the basis that other functions were strong. We know we were lucky.
