very scarey, I am beginning to think it has something to do with dumping. I would like to know if anyone has the same problem. kind regards Sandra.

Were you in hospital at the time?

It does sound very early after the surgery, especially as often eating has not begun by that stage?

Hi Sandra this happened to me but it was 4 months after surgery. It was due to dumping.

I see elsewhere that you wrote of having a 'stroke'

Here you refer to 'seizure'

They are not the same--which was it ?

I think it's important to find out which it was.Your GP should have the answer in your notes.

The significance is as follows :

A 'stroke' is generally caused by the bursting of a blood vessel in the brain and the resulting damage is caused by loss of oxygen and swelling from the hemorrhage.There is usually impairment to or loss of mental function such as speech or paralysis to one side of the body.

A 'seizure' or 'fit' is an electrical storm in the brain which can be so mild that it is not noticed or so severe that it results in loss of consciousness ,and any level of seriousness in between.

Epileptics have seizures but of all the people who have a fit only one in ten has epilepsy.

Most people have at least one fit at some time in their life;but it is a one-off.

There are many triggers.

Can you remember if you were still being fed or supplemented by drip ?

In your case the suspect candidates include :

Withdrawal of narcotics (pain killers)/electrolyte imbalance (fluids/salts)/very low blood sugar.

Did you have any injuries resulting from the fit ?

It is strange that you were kept in hospital for such a long time but if you have been prescribed meds maybe there is reason to suspect an epileptic tendency.

In my case my first fit was seven years after my Ivor Lewis.Not knowing any better I walked down the garden with my wife ,shortly after breakfast.Standing up precipitated dumping and

owing to the resultant excess of Insulin plus depletion by the exercise my blood sugar fell to almost zero.I suffered convulsions so violent that I smashed two vertebra and was unconscious for twenty-four hours.That put me in hospital for four weeks and I had to wear a spinal brace for six months.Can you believe I then repeated the performance a year later ,fortunately with less serious consequences.

I have now learnt to stay sitting for 90-120 minutes after a meal and to always carry sweets in case I feel 'Hypo'.
