Mine just agreed to marry me 24 years ago in April. My sister got in there first with her engagement and as I'm a year older than her I felt a bit irritated about this so we got engaged soon after her announcement and then married a small Cornish church a few months before her.
My younger sister survived a terrible marriage and has two young kids from this. She and her boyfriend (who is lovely and also deaf and has also survived a first traumatic marriage with young kids) were walking in the snow a few weeks ago on the Epsom Downs. He took her totally by surprise by going down on one knee and proposing to her in the thick snow. She thought he had slipped and went to help him up!!
And yes readers, they are now engaged! Tilda xx
Well my hubby purposed to me Christmas morning while we were in bed opening up our presents,
He gave me the ring, i looked at him thinking is this what i think, and he just said well!!, so i had to guess, Nothing has really changed i still have to sometimes guess what he is thinking :))) we have now been married for 13 years and still going strong, For our honey moon we went to Italy, That was really romantic, That another question you can ask Syliv, i am sure there are some great stories there:))))) Take care XXX
Hubby proposed when we were 18 and I was 8 months pregnant !!! He still got down on one knee and proposed peering over my huge bump haha !! Been together 28 yrs and married 21 this year xxx
Hi Sylvi, do you want the proposal from the first marriage or the second? Well the first was in a lane overlooking the fields in Somerset at night, when the person asked me to marry him. Stupidly I said yes and carried through to the wedding, 18 months later we parted company.
The second proposal came after a boozy night out and my hubby words were ' I shouldn't say this but I love you and want to marry you'. I was just disappointed as I did not want this to happen, and I was still in the process of getting a divorce so never answered him.
The third time was the day my divorce was finalised with the decree absolute, I had been living with my hubby for nine months then, it was February '77, he got hold of the calendar and looked at a date and said 'we will get married on the 6 August 1977', which left only a few months to organise. I never did say yes but as you know we are still together all these years later, and the best person ever to roam this earth and a good father to boot. I dread the day we will eventually be parted in the natural way of life.
And the wedding - another story entirely!
I hope you are feeling better today, will pm you later. xxx
My hubby and I were out dancing and I said think its time we got engaged
And he said ok 36 years later I still love him to bits x
hi sylvi,my second hubby just said shall we get married? and i said yes he paid for the whole day bless him and that was nearly 7 years ago and he gets better each year bless him,if i was still married to 1st one i would have been wed 25 years!!! but so happy with what i have now xxx
Ladies it is interesting to hear all your proposals.xxx
In a bright orange bed sit in Falmouth, sat on a mattress on the floor watching TV. I was on Teaching Practice and it was so romantic - not. lol!!
It's ten years this year though!
My husband proposed when we were sitting in a pub having a drink,Nothing spectacular,he just casually said "we could get married" The next day he forgot he had said it ( he wasn't even drunk at the time) We have been married 11 years now.xx
My husband proposed outside in a pub carpark very romantic. I was planning a long trip to India & hubby said to me how about if I take you away, let's make it a honeymoon. I was completely taken aback & said I'm not sure I'll need time to think about it. How awful is that, kept him waiting a week before I said yes, I was very young & unsure that was 40yrs ago & we're still together. We haven't heard any stories from the guys!!
Well my hubby never proposed lol!
He had been married before, he'd been with her over 10 years, worked every hour he could to pay for the wedding and everones outfits including the inaws and after the wedding she was very vacant to say the least, she went missing for days at a time!!
They were married in July and separated by xmas, after 10 years together!
I met him the following April and my friend found out she had been missing as she had been messing about before they were married and this continued afterwards!!
It was left up to me to tell him what she had been up to.......thankfully he didnt hold it against me and a year later they divorced, courtesy of my mum as she was a divorce solicitor lol!
We actually lived together while he was married, though separated.
He mentioned children and i said i couldnt unless i was married, well he'd done it once!
We got engaged, unfortunately the same day Lady Diana died, and the next year we got married in Florida.
Think i actually, inadvertantly, asked him lol!
We are still together 14 year later and have our son 13 who we both adore.
Noo i got that sooo wrong it was a few years later we got married, 1998 and our son was born 1999?
We have now been together 19 year but married 14 year.
God im useless with dates and times lol!
Hi sylvi
My first marrage lasted 24 years and we parted friends as we just could not live together anymore.
Nearly a year later I met this lovely man while at a family birthday party, I was 47 and he was 56 and he had never been married before.
Staight away I new I loved him but he was quite cool at the start and who could blame him as I came with a package of a ex husband, 2 grown up children and 1 grand daughter.
He would make jokes about how he would need to dump me before I was 50 as he could not go out with a woman who was 50 but I knew he was only joking.
Then after 3 months of going out with him he said "instead of dumping you when you are 50 why don't we get married when you are 50".
I could not believe it as it was so soon but I knew it was the right thing to do.
I was dreading telling my son and daugher as it was so soon after me and their dad had spilt but they knew how happy I was so it was fine with them, also I was not divorced at the time.
So the day of my 50th birthday we got married and we are so happy together and we will be married 7 years this May.
Mary
Hi Sylvi,
I met my Hubby on 4th May,engaged 28th July &married 25th August. we celebrate our 40 anniversary this summer. We met via Dateline & he proposed over a meal of Vesta curry!!! Our cooking skills have improved immensely!
Love to all, Alison xx
I actually asked him ... Via text! I am very unconventional. We had been together happily for 26 years! (no point in rushing things, eh! ;-)) We had both been quite ill and it made us think differently!
