What the .....

I started with a flare up yesterday, which is the first I've had in months. I wasn't too worried as I just take a few more mg of pred and it calms down again, but it didn't happen this time.....??? lasted all day and got worse, and I was at work, which means I couldn't do much as I work with the elderly. by last night my hand was so hot and swollen, so had to ring the boss and tell him I could'nt come to work today, and hate doing that !! my pains have gone this am but my thumb is sore and very limited movement, I took a Brufen and 2 osteo panadol last night and went to bed with a ice pack affixed to my hand. Is this the start of getting worse, am worried now !!!

don't know zusan, prob do no harm to ring the nurse or gp just in case it doesn't get better quickly. Hopefully by tomorrow morning it will have calmed down.

Ring your gp asap,you should't have to suffer like that. Try and catch it before it gets any worse. Hope you slept last night. sylvia.xx

Just rested today and its calmed down, but my thumbs are stiff, will go see my doctor, thing is I don't want to take anything else, I hate taking all them meds, will see how it is tomorrow, easy day at work too so it won't be too bad !

Hi Zusan, good suggestions from the others. do go and see your GP or get an appt with your consultant. I find that putting my hands in cold water helps as well as ice packs.

My consultant told me to take 400mg of nurofen and 1000mg of paracetemol during a flare to help with the pain and it does work. Use the gel capsules of nurofen which don't upset your tum.

I know we all hate taking tablets. What other meds are you on? Can any of them be changed to injections? worth enquiring about that. MTX and anti tnf can all be given by injection. And when was the last time you had a blood test? I am concerned at you saying you just take a few extra mgs of prednisalone without medical supervision. This needs looking at. Speak to your GP/consultant as soon as you can - it is easy to overdose on any medication when you feel so ill.
