Headache

Hi everyone what a great site this is, I have just started to take mtx and now only after 4 days I am waking with headaches, can this be part of the side affects already?

Sadly in my experience it can be. I had a headache for the first 9 weeks when I started MTX. Have you taken your folic acid? I still get mild headaches about 24 hours after I take my MTX, which tends to go as soon as I take my folic acid. Could just be coincidence of course! But of course, everyone's different so this is just my experience. Polly

Hi Polly, yes I am taking folic acid every day except the day I take my MTX. Just feeling a bit lathargic now but the headache has gone now it only seems to be in the mornings.Thank you

Hi there,

when I started on MTX I often used to get a headache on waking but usually quite mild. I still occasionally wake up with a headache after 16 weeks on the stuff but it's even milder & goes as soon as I sit up. Like you I take Folic Acid 6 days a week.

I usually say I've had no side effects but every now & then someone mentions one, as you have, & I realise I've had some very minor niggles. Hope that your headaches go soon.

As Polly says a lot of these side effects iron out once your body acclimatises to the new chemical in your system. This can take a while but for me most side effects are a thing of the past - but then I do now inject it rather than take pills. I used to get one or two big bite like spots somewhere around my face the day after that would go after a few days. They were quite itchy and a bit embarrassingly like acne sometimes. I don't get these anymore though - they stopped after about 6 months. Tilda x

Thank you everyone for your advice, I'm due to take my second MTX tomorrow, I'm hoping my side affects dont get any worse. Wendy x
