Good evening hope everyone is doing as well as we can be 🤞

I have had my methotrexate upped 3 weeks ago and have had diarrhoea ever since. Has anyone else had this ?

Don’t know if it’s a side effect or not .

Thanks in advance 😊

It is! You can have injections instead. Ring the helpline.

a common side effects useful comments for injections. Timing can be important I was told to take it on a Friday evening- which often meant I had to be near toilet during weekend which wasn’t great

Yes it can definately upset the gut. Most people settle down, or are better on the injection. But it is an effect of the methotrexate, not just an irritant effect, so although changing to the injections often helps, in my case it didn't and I was changed to other DMARDs.

Yes got digestive upsets easier as others have said when on injections. I was also prescribed metoclopramide for nausea. Discuss with your RA specialist nurse they can sort you something to help.

Hi - I was moved over to injections a few years ago and it did help with the sore stomach issue. I now take my MTX injection just before bedtime as I'm either going to be laid still / flat overnight, or asleep if I have stomach cramps. Seems to help me....maybe worth a try. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I have been in touch with my nurse and she has agreed, with the consultant, that I can try MTX Injection to see if this elevates the problem. Fingers crossed 🤞😊
