Methotrexate

Happy Valentine’s Day.

Methotrexate and side effects. Been on 25mg for 7/8 years, but recently have had skin problems, itchy top of head, hair loss and reactive to sunlight. think it is my Methotrexate, so reduced it to 15mg. Slightly better since reduction to 15mg. Anyone else have these side effects and any suggestions?

I have been on MTX for about the same length of time - started on 25mg but last year reduced to 20mg by GP pharmacist after an iffy blood result. I tolerate it pretty well but do have an itchy scalp - have been told it is probably not MTX causing it so currently trying several different shampoos to ease it

My label from the pharmacy on metho box does warn about protecting your skin in sunshine.

Put on weight hated it

So came off it

Have no regrets coming off it

Hi Italy 08, sorry about your side effects. I was on MTX for about 13 years and also had a lot of itchy skin and sensitivities, though main side effect for me was nausea, which became so chronically bad (not improved by switching to injections either) and poisoning the body, that switched to Leflunamide and was fine on that. I was only on 25mg MTX when having sustained flare-ups, otherwise was on a maintenance dose of 10mg, which still gave the nausea. Not sure how your inflammation is doing, but may be worth asking if you could go down to 10mg maintenance dose if you're not having flare-ups on 15mg? Good Luck!
