Hi Blackberrywine. I had psoriasis in my ears and it was very severe. Methotrexate helped me a lot when I started taking it and after three months everything went away.

I'd urge you to see your GP. If you haven't already as it must be so uncomfortable.

Agree with Medway-lady, sounds like you could maybe even do with seeing a dermatologist if your GP can’t help you. It must be pretty awful.

My Dermatologist prescribe ,7 days on a steroid cream, then switch to Vaseline until you feel you need another week on the steroid .

It does work for me for most of the time,,,but the Dermy did warn me it doesn’t work for everybody.

Run it by your doctor..might be worth an ask?

I have this! Bloody awful and I can’t stop scratching. Methotrexate has helped and pretty much cleared it up everywhere else but it stubbornly remains in my ears. Went to GP who gave me some wax drops. That made it worse! So if you ever find a solution let me know!!

The one thing that worked was a combination ear drop of antibiotic and steroid. I was refused last time I asked. I might try asking again as it's really doing my nut in!🤯 Thanks all.

why the heck were you refused? It’s like they want to keep us in a state of feeling like we are going slightly mad. I’m going to ask for that!

I got the whole antibiotic overuse speech. Understandable but I rarely use it, or any other antibiotic. Problem I have is ear infections from the psoriasis! 🤪

Refused!!! That’s exactly what I was thinking fangrock! How can he refuse something that works for you. So in the meantime you have to suffer ??? I do hope you can get sorted out soon.

If the antibiotics/steroid combo worked you could have psoriasis with secondary infection hence steroid alone not helping. Id suggest this to the GP sometimes the "fake it till you make it approach" ie sounding knowledgeable scares medical people and they give in.

Exactly the case. The psoriasis causes my ear infections. I'm going to try again as I was refused during the whole pandemic debacle when the doc tried to get me to take a photo of my ear canal! 🤪

oh this is really interesting. I suddenly had an outbreak of what they think is psoriasis last summer (still waiting to see the dermy). I’ve also had what I thought was a persistent low level ear infection since last autumn. I hadn’t linked the two 🤦🏻‍♀️. I get itching and soreness, yellow smelly ear wax and sometimes flakes out of my ears. Does this sound like psoriasis plus infection??

Could well be. Get the dermatologist to look in your ears. I can tell you from experience that trying to stuff a mobile phone down there doesn't work! 😆 Joking aside, do get them to look as it drags on forever, and only gets worse in my experience.

I'm going to make a request today for drops. Fingers crossed.

Oh yes I have that too - just in one ear. I frequently get Optimise stay (I think that's what it's called) from the GP when it's bad. Have tried steroids but don't love using them as it inevitably comes back.

I was taking methotrexate for 6 weeks and did notice it clear up - stopped taking b/c I was on the severe end of side effects and it came back straight away.

The only other thing I have found useful is a CBT based cream. Does a slightly better and quicker job than any steroid cream I have been given.

I did wait the 18 months to see and ENT to get it checked out and he just told me to not get it wet - as you can see from his advice that was really worth the wait!

hi bb wine. I can vouch for Otomize ear spray it works with in the hour. I swear by it and keep a spare always in fridge. You have to keep ears dry when showering and washing hair. I would be ver surprised if this did not work for you. Good luck . Prescription or on internet.

Hi Blackberrywine. (Nice name). I know how you feel. I’ve had some awful ear infections. I had a burst eardrum for 6 months. It’s shocking how vulnerable you feel when your hearing’s affected! I’ve had my ears drained a few times. (They sucked out some awful black ‘gunk’). They gave me some prescription steroid ear drops. I loved feeling them going down my ‘canals’. Weird feeling. Like creepy crawlies in your head. It just melted the wax away. I’ve been told i’ve got excema in my ears. So i’m always making that awful noise while i scratch my ears. I’ve been told to use over the counter ear drops to keep the ears moist. With me it’s to do with the bloody menopause. Everything dries up! Some mornings i feel really crap. My joints, my eyes, my mouth, my ears. Then i make a cuppa. (Maybe a naughty treat). I’ve just had some lovely watermelon in bed & watched an ep of 24hrs in Police Custody. The melon helped moisten my mouth. Plus i have fake tears from my gp & fake saliva. Has helped a bit. Seeing the ‘badies’ being arrested, when they broke the door down with the big enforcer thing helped too! Hope you get your ears sorted. I know it seems ‘obvious’. But if you use earphones. Maybe try & give them a rest for a while. I live over a school. (231 screaming kids). So sometimes i walk around with earplugs in my ears. This has made mine worse. Anyway. Hope you get some relief soon. X

Hi Blackberrywine, I have exactly the same problem psoriasis in both ears. I have been on Methotrexate for roughly 10 years and biologics for the last five years. These seemed to help, however the Mathotrexate has left me with fibrosis of the liver which is severe scarring and has impacted the functionality of my liver. I was told to immediately stop taking the Methotrexate but I could carry on with the biological. For the psoriasis in my ears I was advised by my dermatologist to use Dovobet ointment which has 50 micrograms/g of Calcipitriol plus 0.5 mg of Betamethasone. Just a little goes a long way but it is only available under prescription. This does help for a few days and you just have to repeat it. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted.
