weird mouth symptoms on Sulfasalazine

Has anyone experienced anything like the following? I’ve been on Sulf for 7 weeks, max dose from 4 weeks. In the last 3 days I’ve had a sore tongue which has now settled but I’ve completely lost my sense of taste. I’ve tested and am negative for covid. I can’t think what else it could be!

I had this. Apparently a rare side effect. Sense of taste did come back slowly after I stopped taking it.

Really? Interesting. I wonder what I should do???? Wonder whether I should carry on and hope it goes away. I don’t really have any other alternatives as the other DMARDS are no good with my other health conditions and medications. Not a great thing to,have around Christmas time though!

I'm on it. Have had red parts on my tongue but no problem with taste. I never thought it was the sulfasalazine, maybe it is! Can you ring your rheumatology department?

I developed erosive oral lichen planus( which is rare anyway) whilst taking sulphasalazine .I had no loss of taste but very sore mouth. Stopped the drug. and much improved…

I have been on suplpa for 2 years and mouth ulcers and sore throats seem to be a frequent occurance

I completely lost my sense of taste when on Sulfa. It was very depressing! When I stopped taking the meds it took nearly 2 months for taste to return

Hi i'v been on sulfasalazine for years and was also on them about 30 years ago the first time I got mouth ulcers but they eventually reduced and then I would only get them now and again. When I went back in them I didn't get any for a while but I just get them now and again. Hope your discomfort clears up soon
