Methotrexate and Folic acid

I know Folic Acid is not taken on same day and take Methotrexate around 6pm at night then Folic following day.Does everyone wait a full 24 hours before taking Folic acid. Pharmacy thinks needs to be full 24 hours but not seen this written down. Nurses have a three day wait for advice so seeing what others do. Thought Folic was supposed to help with side effects which for me seem to be after 12 hours.

Yes, wait 24hrs. I was told that the MTX depletes folic levels. If you take too early it wouldn’t be effective. I take it 6 days a week, in the evening, and high is the time of day I take my MTX

I was told 24 hours so take my mtx at 9pm on a Monday, and my folic acid every night except Monday at 9pm.

In the States you take it every day! I used to get a MTX headache about 18 hours after injecting, ie follwoing early evening so took one then. Not medical advice of course just what I do.

Yes, I’m in the US and my rheumy told me every day and that there’s just a difference of opinion between doctors on this.

Same for me :)

That was when I was on 25 mg but even though I'm now on 10 mg it's still the same. I guess it varies depending on the rheumy.

They all seem to give different advice. My last Rheum had me on 6 pills a week. Now just 5.

Yes. I take my methotrexate in the evening with the hope that I sleep through some side effects (not that I have an issue really) so to tie in with that take folic acid in the evening on the other days.

I do exactly the same. Never occurred to me that it might be a problem. I will take my folic 24 hours after from now on.
