What changes did you make to get your RA in remission please?

Only difference was change of therapy. 17 months ago changed to Benipali

Oh yes I will continue . It's a fine line between active and remission. It will keep me in remission .Who knows? I had to come off the Benipali for 5 weeks due to investigation unrelated and my body soon reacted painfully being off it.

I have just started benepali. I would expect it to work well before 17 months and probably would want to change it to another biologic as I did with adilumimab .

We're you told to persist with it?

I'm on the slow train not the express train. It depends on circumstances as one size doesn't fit all. RA is not my only illness so one has been fighting with the other. I am a patient person and worth the wait. Benipali got me there in the end. This is my second biological. I wasn't told to persist with it. Choices are low due to latent TB and Benipali is a lower risk of activation. Hope you achieve your goal.

Definitely possible, everyone has the potential to go into remission. With the right medication

Come on don't rain on my parade,😬 what is normal? If my specialist nurse said you're in remission I'll take that and not look into why or what. I'm still elated and have had many positive posts . I am well aware it's not cured but after the last 13months of negative news on other problems I'm on cloud nine.

I’m very jealous. I was diagnosed in 2004 and have been in pain ever since, despite trying many different meds. Since May 6th I haven’t been on any meds because of a wound on my hip that isn’t healing.

Remission meant I had my life back and was in full control. It's such a wonderful feeling.

Wonderful! I also went into remission after about 17 years of being on Humira. They took me off the Humira because I had cancer, twice. Thankfully successfully treated. I tried some other DMARD drugs but all had unpleasant side effects, so I stopped them all quite quickly. The thing that I believe helped me was going strictly gluten free. I also avoid cows dairy and nightshades. Eventually I was signed off from the hospital because of being in remission. I do rather miss the Humira though. For me it had a tremendously mood lifting effect, as well as helping my joints. I now also have Hashimotos hypothyroidism, another autoimmune disease, so have been focusing on getting good treatment for that. There’s always something, isn’t there?

Yes always something. I've obviously still got Osteoarthritis and this year diagnosed with pancreatitis and test next week to see if I've got microscopic colitis which is associated with RA .Wishing you better days ahead

That is really good news for you! 👍But... what does remission actually mean? is it just based on inflammation and CRP levels?

I was told I was 'in remission' about two years ago but my CRP has never been high anyway (ESR usually is though and a high RF) I still ache in my feet, ankles, knees, elbows, fingers. I'm only on hydroxychloroquine but often take Ibuprofen and/or Paracetamol.

Is remission supposed to mean a pain-free (RA wise) normal life?

What is normal? We all differ. My only pain now is Osteoarthritis. I don't delve into the science as it gets too heavy.

I have been in remission for many years (about15) on Benepali and a small mtx injection each week. Had a flair after about 10 years which soon died down after a few steroids. I still have some problems but the flair (probably due to Covid) really reminded me how lucky I am and how bad the pain and damage was in the beginning. I hope you have the success I had.

That’s really good news, so pleased for you. It’s such a long haul to get anywhere near ‘normal’ functioning with RA so every step is a big one and if you’ve knocked off the worse culprit at least you can cope better with the lesser ones. Long may your great improvement last!
