So last week I had a steroid injection to help my pain. So far so good although as of the last couple of nights I’ve been unable to sleep and am now constantly sweating. I have no idea if this is related to the injection or something else but it only seems to be at night. Anyone got any ideas?

With the caveat that I’m not medically qualified. Insomnia following a steroid jab I’m familiar with - had my first one just over a fortnight ago and insomnia became a big problem after the first 4 or 5 days. Far worse than I ever experience with oral steroids. Increased sweating is also a known and listed side effect of having a steroid injection, so it could well be that, but if in doubt, it’s always worth seeking medical advice: not suggesting it’s necessarily anything untoward, but steroids, generally, can occasionally cause side effects requiring intervention.
I’ve got to say, after the last two weeks, and although it provided fairly good pain relief, I won’t be choosing to have a jab again over oral steroids. It’s entirely personal preference, but at least with orals you can take them early in the morning to somewhat offset the insomnia. Or skip a dose! I’m still really struggling with my sleep, and my mood, even though all the positive effect has already mostly worn off.
Exactly that, HH - I probably should have made that clearer in my response. It is so individual with all these things. I don’t like either form, but I do now know which is my own lesser evil!!
My lesser evils were the injections as they worked fantastically (joint injections lasted 6-8 months for me) and oral steroids made me pile weight on. I needed them though when all else failed years ago. It’s all down to the side effect experiences. Where you are in terms of mobility too. Yes, it’s very individual.
it’s very strange I had a lower dosage a couple months ago and had no issues at all but because of the amount of pain I’ve been in my doctor said to try the higher dosage. Lower amount of rheumatoid pain but I feel like it’s a heatwave at night even though it’s really cold in reality 😅
The steroid injections can make you feel very overheated/flushed for a couple of days and thirsty and more frequent urination. Also some people feel full or queasy. Let your doc or rheumy know if you feel it’s not improving but I bet these reactions now lessen for you. 🙏🏻
I have my knees injected regularly and find that night and for about two to three days I’m sweating, look very flushed and can’t find peace. I’m sure it’s the high dose of steroids injected in both knees. Works a treat for the pain. Brings the swelling down but all the side effects of high dose steroids
