I know that diet really doesn’t have a lot to do with our conditions. Personally I’ve never noticed what I ate making me worse….however, my body is a mess. I’m getting my 5th biologic to try Wednesday , I’m on 20mg pred and 25 mtx.
My ankles are swollen, wrists not great can’t straighten one of my fingers and my hand is swollen. Ive developed a weird rash and have strange muscle pain over my back.
So new year new me, I’m thinking of trying an anti inflammatory diet, yoga and rest. Anyone had any success.?
Anyone else have a rash? It’s not psoriasis but raised red blotches that fade to purple. Non itchy.

Hope you feel better soon. Personally, I’ve noticed a difference since cutting out lots of processed foods, as much as I can (I’m not perfect!) and eating more greens. I also find meditation, hot baths, reading and Pilates help me, especially with stress levels and sleep.
While diet won't cure you... A healthy diet like the Mediterranean style will help your body cope. It is true that we need to feed our bodies to do their best for us, eating just for pleasure doesn't do that. For me, sugar and high fat dairy have an impact on my joints and my sjogrens. Chocolate causes migraine. I know this because mostly I am vegan, but every once in a while I stray and enjoy a bit of cheese or something creamy - my body always reacts. It reacts more if I have an excessive day of dairy but not so much if its only a little cheese sandwich for example. Over the years I have concluded that my body does a better job for me, if I feed it good nutrients and don't indulge too much in the, for me, dreaded dairy and sugary foods.
I frequently tinker with diet trying to find a way to improve my condition. The obvious avoiding processed foods and refined sugars. I also think red wine seems to make things a bit worse, although I do occasionally give in and have a glass. I tried gluten free diet for 3 months but that did not work. I think it is definitely worth trying. Yoga, meditation and walking help me too.
I've practiced yoga for a long time on and off (though by no means a bendy flexible expert 😊). I have tried classes and much prefer doing it at home. I do some of Yoga with Adrienne on youtube. If you are new to this try the one for seniors or chronic pain, there is a old one on her channel for morning yoga which is gentle and slow. I would recommend a thick yoga mat. Don't bother with the thin ones! Good luck and remember take one day at a time! 👍
Hi JammieI’m with brushwork here, I eat a Mediterranean style diet high in the good fats, no processed food & certainly no sugar for me. Thankfully I do t have a particularly sweet tooth, savories by far my preferred choice..
Like brushwork I’ve cut out dairy plus gluten, if I have a small amount say croutons on a freshly made soup I’m ok but just not to much or to often .
I think eating a healthy diet is paramount & I find intermittent fasting extremely beneficial too, probably the most beneficial..

There’s no denying changing your diet worked for her, however it’s not easy and most people do not have her discipline.
Thanks everyone, I've organised one to one yoga to start. I'm not going gluten free, my friend in coeliac and it's a knighmare to do right. I've never noticed a particular food flaring my symptoms. I'm married to a farmer so any radical diet is out unless I'm going to cook two menus and I barely have time to cook one. We don't do a lot of processed food but there is a lot of red meat so I'm going to try Mediterranean and less meat. At the end of the day it's not going to cure me but it might help.
I live with a farmer too and we do eat a fair bit of meat, though with a balanced diet believe lean meat, locally produced, pasture-fed, free-range meat is very healthy and good for us. Agree processed food isn't good. Really hope you'll feel better & sort the rash & back etc, wilbertjellyfish. Feel for you being on MTX + steroids & trying to get a biologic to work. The drugs you're on may well be causing the rash etc too. Take care and good luck X
