If you enter PIP telephone in the Search box there are quite a few previous posts/discussions. Both my initial PIP & Review were done in person so I can't help personally otherwise I’m afraid.
That said my sister in law had a telephone consultation a few months ago & whilst she didn't receive what her Hepatologist & the appointed PIP form 'filler inner' at St James' considered she may receive she was content with what she was awarded. Both she & her husband thought quite a few questions were asked a couple of times in a slightly different way which I seem to recall at my first one, as if they're seeing if you give the same answer. I didn't have this at my review so maybe it's something certain PIP consultants choose to do.
I hope all goes well. Do let us know how you thought it went.
Hello, I wrote a long reply, but it seems to have disappeared. The main points are to be honest, focus on your poor days, give lots of examples of how you struggle on your poor days...perhaps you cannot shower or wash your hair due to pain and fatigue for example ?
Have ready lists of examples of equipment you need from a medicine box from oxo soft grip vegetable peelers , or perhaps you buy ready prepared veg as you cannot manage to prep veg at all.
Most of these interviews are ok, but do make sure that your voice is heard, don't be rushed, take your time and do let us know how you get on ?

Best advice going I think, available to download too, good luck x
Sit down with a cup of tea and reread your original application and don't panic if or rush your responses. It's important to remember that they are typing in your responses so be clear and concise. Don't forget to write down notes as well as its helpful to keep your own records too. I'd even suggest asking them to read some of your responses back to you to make sure if your in doubt about having made yourself clear. Best of luck and reread your application thats probably the most important reminder of why you applied and a good indicator of the effects that may qualify your award.
I would second the above. Get them to read through your responses to the questions to make sure you have covered all your points. I had one once where the assessor (Face to face) told me to not worry and that she would get back to things. This never happened. I have memory issues and was incredibly stressed. The report was such a work of fiction it took 2.5 years and the High Court to resolve. Try and remember that you are in charge so they should not rush you. Keep your application next to you and back up all points with medical evidence. Good Luck x
thankyou very much xx
I haven't had any experience of this, but be brave; I'll be thinking of you - keep in touch 🙂
Write down stuff now like things you think you might forget on the day and put these things in the questions you have replied to if you haven’t already done so.
On too of all the great advice so far I will add don't panick remember to breathe sounds silly but in stressful situations we tend not to have a tick list so you know you've covered what you want .Take it slowly don't let them rush you .Have water at the side of you Remember this if the award isn't as expected then you can challenge it and ask for it to be looked at again and if that doesn't satisfy you you can go to tribunal .I did this in the end and it's not as bad as many think .I eventually was awarded full PIP Mobility and care with back pay .it's a long process but not as stressful as you would think I did it all on my own but there is help out there if you need it .... hopefully you won't need to go this far good luck remember they are not monsters let us know how you get on take care ...
Hello Olivia. I have been reading all the comments on here for over a year and find this site has helped me understand my condition enormously, so thank you so much everyone.
This is the first time I have posted anything and I am doing so with my ‘Citizens Advice’ adviser hat on! I have been an adviser for 15 years! So here is a link from our public website which may help you citizensadvice.org.uk/benef...
You are entitled to take someone with you to these assessments but if you are having a telephone assessment you can also request that a CA adviser (or another person who knows you well) also attends with you on the phone. They may or may not be able to comment but at least they will hear what you are saying and be able to back you up should your application be turned down. I myself did this for a client recently and was allowed to chip in with comments to add to my client’s answers as I did know her very well. You can also ask in advance for permission to record the interview. A large percentage of applications are turned down but then later win on appeal. So if this happens to you, don’t give up but ask for a ‘mandatory reconsideration’ first and go to appeal if that too fails. I would highly recommend you seek help through this from your local Citizens Advice! You would be able to find their contact details on the website too.
So good luck and I hope you succeed.
thankyou so much for your help!x
Hi ,I had my telephone assessment call just before Xmas, does anyone know how long before I will receive my reply to see if I will be still on pip...I'm worried sick
Hi. Sorry, I didn’t realise you’d had your assessment already. I would give it 5 weeks from your phone call (what with Christmas & New Year) and then phone up to chase. Ask for a copy of your Medical Assessment, so you know how they reached their conclusions. You will also need it in case you need to challenge the decision.
Hi thanks ,I have just had a letter this morning saying they have everything they need ,so hopefully it won't be long now .Cheers
Hiya Joanzoe, welcome to the NRAS site. I was replying to your post & it's been deleted so I hope this reaches you!
It can be stressful waiting to hear of your award. Times may differ this time of year but it's not usually very long after once the DWP tell you they have all they need. You can ask for a copy of the assessment providers report.
Am I understanding correctly, are you wishing to apply for Change in Circumstances following your hospital stay? I take it is how you've been affected info for the daily care component (which you don't have at the mo) related to long Covid. If so I’m not sure if there's a suggested length of time you'd wait before applying for C inC after receiving notification of your renewal award, you would need to contact the DWP to ask I would think.
I do hope you've not too long to wait before you hear from the DWP.
NB Just to clarify, for both components of PIP the are paid as either standard or enhanced rate… middle was a DLA rate. I take it this was a typo & the latest assessment you had was for PIP Review?
Take your time. All the best xx
