That is my problem, cannot stand for long or sit for long. Makes the simplest of things difficult, even a shower. Still hoping for a change of meds for some that will work.

Oh good. My first biologics worked really well but then failed when i had to leave them off as i got an infection. Am now on second biologic but with no relief. Awaiting f2f appt. in July - hoping to try something else. Hope yours work as well as my first ones did. Good luck.

I have just given up and come to bed. My R.A. started flaring yesterday and my back has jumped in to join the party today. I hope it is better tomorrow. Achyknitter has just become Miserableknitter.

Yes, but it is lower back and more achey than pain, at the moment. Comes and goes.

It is awful. I agree. I’ve found if I do Pilates exercises. Just the back and bum stretching ones, it helps me. It’s a pain getting on the floor e.t.c. and I can’t stretch as much as those young women do but it does loosen me up and the pain lessens as a result. There’s loads on YouTube.

Yes 24/7, some times very severe. Reduces to low level pain when taking Cocodemol 30/500, but the side effects are terrible.

Oooh yes .... was told recently I have a fractured vertebra apparently not suitable for the cement treatment so GP simply sent me a few boxes of painkillers - no advice from him. I usually get to lunch time and then need to lay down its another annoying thing to cope with. Could you ask for an Xray or scan to find out what's causing it for you.

Is it caused by the RD? Perhaps it's a side effect of your medication. I suggest this because I have a lot of back pain - but it only started after I began taking a biologic. I've hah RD for many years and had never experienced it before.

I have spoken to the rheumatology dept and it has been confirmed that the biologic is the culprit. Unfortunately, the only choice is either stop the biologic or take even more pain killers. I don't want to stop the biologic, or even change to another, because it is working well in tackling flares.

Eczema is another side effect, but this is under control - the back pain is quite another thing! I am expecting a visit from a physio who might be able to offer some help - but we'll see.

Nothing is simple, it it?

No it’s not. Don’t think it’s meds as been on them a year now

I have been dealing with it daily for almost 2 years. Had x-rays and MRI but not much they can do. I feel laying down makes it worse so I just try to plug along everyday and do what I can. I just switched from Humira to Embrel, I hope this will help. Good luck to you!

As you are seeing your consultant she will decide if you need an X-ray or scan. My mum had back pain which was in her lumber region and it was diagnosed after X-ray as the vertebrae had crumbled and were impinging on a nerve. She was developing pins and needles and numbness down her leg and as a result had rods put in her back to support her spine. I also have back pain but middle of my back but after X-ray showed age related degeneration of the spine. I think RA and osteoporosis doesn’t help but it’s if any numbness develops that you need to seek help. I was once told by a Dr that the best way to relieve back pain is to not take to your bed but do gentle stretching exercises. Pilates on reformer machines helped me 100%. Good luck.
