Changing MTX For HxQ

Having to leave MTX after more than 10 years due to side effects. Looking at Hydrochloroquine to replace it. My eyes are good having had cateracts done and artificial lenses put in. I take Ramipril for arythmia and no longer have the symptom. What can I expect with that change. Does one start low dose and build like we did with MTX

I started Hydroxychloroquine at the same time as Methotrexate and didn't have to build up to the 400mg daily dose unlike with the Methotrexate and with Sulfasalazine which I added later.

I haven't had any problems with Hydroxychloroquine but can't tell how effective it's been as I've always taken it with other medications.

Me too. Was put on all 3 at same time. I have my eyes checked at least once a year.As oldtimer says look at nras and take your rheumys advice.

Good luck.

Hello yes that's the way. I have had 2 tablets of 200 mg at night for 15 years. Wonderful drug. Yearly test at the optician's for any effects but I am fine so far. Good luck.

Hi Bandido - hcq has worked well for me with no noticeable side effects. Started on 1 tablet (200mg) per day for a week then increased to 2 tablets a day, I at lunchtime, 1 in the evening. Still on that dose. Good luck with it if you give it a try, it’s much kinder than mtx, I hope it works for you.
