Medication mixup!

I normally take my MTX on a Monday evening after tea, and then tues-sun take my folic acid, I have an alarm set for 19:30 to remind me, heard it go off last night and put my tablets ready to take, unfortunately as I was really tired last night I took the folic acid instead of MTX! My question is should I just take MTX tonight, and if I do would I be best to just change the day to Tuesday for MTX instead of Monday? Or if I did take it tonight would I be OK to go back to Mondays from next week? Hope that all makes sense :-D

Lol, we have all been there with the tiredness 🤣. It is absolutely fine to take MTX tonight. If the day you take it on is not important to you then keeping it on Tuesday is fine too. If you want to revert back to Monday, the advice is to move the day on each week until you are back to Monday again. So Tuesdsy this week, Wednesday next week, Thursday the week after and so on.

That sounds too complicated!!! :-D Think I will just change it to Tuesdays, and just try and remember! I have been taking them since March and this is the first time I have messed it up. I have a little craft business, been so busy that it is leaving me more tired and fatigued than normal, thanks for the reply :-D

Don’t worry I took Mtx for seven years and I think I changed from every day of the week regularly! It never occurred to me to worry!

You've got a two day window for taking mtx, this is in my mtx monitoring booklet.

What happens if I forget to take my tablets?

If you miss your methotrexate on your normal day, dont worry you can take it the following day. For example, if your normal day for taking your dose is a Tuesday, you can take it on Wednesday or Thursday. Do not take the dose if you are three or more days late. A flare-up of the disease during this time is unlikely, in both cases take your next dose on your usual day the following week.

Thanks for that, no idea where my booklet is at the moment, as everything is being moved to make way for all my craft stuff!!!

I'm sure that my nurse told me that it was OK to take it a day late and then go back to the original day; longer than one day and then either change the day permanently or miss a dose. When I wanted to change my day permanently from Monday to Saturday, I did move it one day at a time so did it over 5 weeks.Happy crafting!

That is what I have done too. If I had forgotten to put the pills in my pill case. I take morning and evening pills. I take so many. So I would just take them the next day and go back to my regular day the next week.

I messed mine up this morning. MXT at 7am and then accidentally took folic acid at 9.30 😔

Don't worry, my consultant told me when my folic acid was increased to one a day it didn't make any difference if I took it in mtx day. I did it for several years and it didn't do any harm to me. I'm in remission too.

Interesting ... I thought folic acid stopped MXT working as such.

I think that there's a school of thought which says that it might reduce the effectiveness a bit but it seems that they prescribe it every day in America.

I take folic acid too everyday. My Doctor told me to. When I read that others were told not to take it on the mtx day. I thought it was unusual.

I questioned taking it everyday with my specialist nurse after my consultant told me to take it everyday. She said she'd done extensive research into it and she agreed with what my consultant had said, it makes no difference.

Yes I agree. I have been doing it for many years. No problems.

I done that once and by chance my rhuemy rang me that day and I explained what I did and she said take it on the Tuesday and then go back to your normal day which is also a Monday . She said it was fine and so was I ... so it’s absolutely fine

Take it tonight and stick to that day. Take it 7 days later NOT 6.

To make it easy for me, I have my alarm set for Mtx Monday at 7pm and folic acid I take every morning with my vitamins.
