Hi everyone, has anyone ever got the steriod shots to the shoulders to help ease the RA pain there. If so did you drive home from the clinic. My problem is I am finding it hard to get someone to drive me there and back as most of my friends are in lock down. A taxi would cost a fortune as the clinic is so far away but I could drive myself...? I was told to rest my arm and shoulders after the shots but can I get away with a 40 mile drive home by myself?

Steriod shots in the shoulders Question
Hi, yes I did admittedly it wasn’t far. Later that day I took my granddaughter to the cinema & then I went out for dinner. I was pretty much ok until the following day. It was pretty painful for a couple of days but it worked along with physio good luck.
It is difficult when you can be independent but worry that you will be doing yourself harm if you are!Is it possible to plan stops on the way back to rest? If you could break the journey into shorter spells of driving you might be better able to manage it?
I've had them and they were very helpful. I would just be concerned if anyone orange you that the insurance may not cover it if you've just had a " procedure" ?? I dont know though.
I've had two, one at the front & one at the back. For both I was advised not to drive home which was fine as my h accompanies me to my appointments (in the normal world). As it was I wasn't safe to drive as my movement was limited, I was relying on mirrors alone so it wasn’t an option to drive. Always best to think of worst case scenario if you're limited with movement & considering driving. Would your insurance be affected should the worst happen? Sorry to be a Debbie downer but it is something to think about. I tend to limit movement of the injected joint for a day, just because I think it will keep the steroid from leaking out further away from the joint. Whether that's actually correct I can't say but it makes me feel better!
I think the main point is how much are you going to move your shoulders on that 40 mile drive. I think the reason they recommend rest after a steroid jab, is to keep it where it needs to be. I had a jab in my right shoulder and drove 20 miles home in September. I barely moved my shoulders, but then again it didn't sort my shoulder pain. I have had a knee jab in the past, driven home in a manual car, and my knee was good for several years
For me it would depend on which shoulder it was and whether I had an automatic car.
Hi folx, well I got my two steriod shot one in each shoulder. Painless and quik. Got a lift home and have to totaly reeeeeellax for 48hrs. Thanks for the responces. Off to watch the Crown on Netflix.
I was told not to drive myself. My arm was very stiff after and I was woozy too. Take care and get a taxi.
I have had it done a couple times, it usually contains a bit of painkillers so you won't feel anything for at least 3hrs, so I think you'll be fine. I admit I didn't have to drive that far approx 10miles round trip.
Good luck, and get well soon
