I had been told that I picked up viral infection from the hospital when I had my recent wrist fusion. After seeing ENT and put on meds for 2 weeks my left ear hadn’t changed so I was sent to ear surgeon. I just had a cSteroid shot in the ear on Thursday and they set me up for 4 more in the next 10 days. Crazy this happened as my hearing was great. Crazy! I hope these shots work.
I get my wrist cast off tomorrow to see how the plate and screws are set up and go from there.

Oh flip, that sounds horrible! I truly hope that the injections do the trick. Wishing you better
I do hope that you get your hearing back oznaf. I lost the hearing in my right ear nearly 11 years ago and was very unlucky in the treatment I was given. I managed to get in to see a locum doctor who said there was nothing to be done except to wait for two weeks and that no one at ENT would see me before that. I was so worried that I went to A & E and saw a nurse practitioner who told me that a doctor would only see me if my ear was bleeding or discharging badly. Later that day, I had a phone call from the head of my GPs practice who told me off for going to A & E after having seen a doctor there in the morning. He said my hearing would come back and that he didn't like the way I had tried to jump the queue.
Eventually, it was discovered that the nerve in my ear had died and that the only thing that would have given me a chance of getting my hearing back was to be given steriods into the ear very quickly and probably also antibiotics as well. As it was, it had been left too long. It was so awful to have lost it and to know that I hadn't be given the treatment I should have had. It took a long time to learn to cope with it especially as I am very musical and it was a long time before I played the piano or guitar again. I have lost hearing anything in stereo and can't tell which direction a sound is coming from.
So at least you are getting the right treatment and I am very glad for you. Please do keep in touch and let us know how things go.
Got my cast off today and put in a Star Wars leather removable cast for a few weeks Weird now the wrist doesn’t bend or move...gotta get use to this for sure. Did my steroid shot afterwards in the ear and this one really gave me a kick in the rear(an ear..lol)..he did a double hit with the needle so I got plenty of Steroids. Needless to say i was quite tipsy and my bride of 47 years as usual I leaned on her to the car. Super woman!...Anyway, tomorrow is a rest day before the 3rd shot on Wednesday. Setting up an MRI for end of week,,,,,,appreciate your input and sorry your ear loss dint have better results
Had my 4th of 5 Ear drum steroid shots on Friday...last one on Monday and then we wait for 3 or more weeks...so far no progress......I’m an optimist but haven’t some doubts with 5 in 10 days and no progress....weird Viral infection....you go in for wrist fission and pick up a viral infection...crazy...oh well...stay positive....
Finished my 5th shot in eardrum this week,,,now its a waiting game over next few months to see how much i get back....I am guilty of not appreciating my hearing until you lose it...crazy...
