Omeprazole as prescribed by my gp

GP wouldn't prescribe omeprazole or any tablet ending in -azole. Said it would be a bad mix with Methotrexate. Currently on Gaviscon Advance chewable tablets and it's not working very well

I'm on methotrexate and lansoprozole. Have been for 3 years.

I’m on methotrexate and omeprazole, have been for 10 years. Also take a tsp of bicarb of soda on bad days (ie when I’ve been bad and eaten something evil like fish & chips)

I don't know the difference between lansoprozole and omeprazole.

Not much....all the ones ending in “zole” are very similar.

Thanks

So why not give everyone the same? Rhetorical question really.

Thanks

One tiny molecule can make all the difference.....like having 8 different anti- tnfs that are just slightly different and some work for some people and not others. Guesswork and chance...

I knew you would know. Thank you : ) : )

I tried omeprazole for 3 years and nothing. Switched to lansoprezole and bingo. A much better fit for me. I am on Hydroxychloriquine for LSSc not RA. But things overlap.

I wish I was. This acid reflux is really getting me down

amc282 in reply to Gnarli

Ask for a change. Are you also modifying your diet?

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to amc282

Oh believe me I have. My diet is very good as I'm practically vegetarian, seldom eat fatty foods as they upset my tummy, don't take caffeinated drinks, don't smoke etc.

amc282 in reply to Gnarli

Yes, me, too. It is so difficult. Today I had a 24 HR manometry test to check if I did have reflux. They said my LES is loose but there was no evidence of GERD. They think it has to do with motility of food. My oesophagus is not moving properly, it is weak so food just hangs around in my gullet.

Oh bless you, that's awful for you and I'm sorry to hear it. I do hope the doctors can find something that helps you very soon.

I take pantoprazole.

Omeprazole and lansoprazole didn't work so well for me.

nanawilson profile image
nanawilson in reply to Mmrr

I’m sure that was mentioned but does that interact with methotrexate ?

Mmrr profile image
Mmrr in reply to nanawilson

I was on MTX when taking pantoprazole.

nanawilson profile image
nanawilson in reply to Mmrr

And no unwanted side effects ?

Mmrr profile image
Mmrr in reply to nanawilson

No side effects. I've taken pantoprazol for many years due to taking NSAIDs for many years.

Since Ranitidine was withdrawn, I've been prescribed Cimetidine, and now Famotidine, although each month there's hassle going backwards and forwards between GP Surgery and Pharmacy as they cannot obtain stock. Last month I almost had Nizatidine, but another patient got the last box before me.

When I asked why it was difficult obtaining stock, the Pharmacist said its because everyone who was on Ranitidine now wants one of the above H2 blockers and suggested I ask the GP for a PPI (Omeprazole etc.) to which I replied I was on PPI's for 10 years and they upset my stomach.

After I've finished my current box, there's a couple of weeks I cannot get any H2 blocker and go without.

Not liking the sound of that at all Good luck 🤞I didn’t even realise they had recalled ranitidine till I read few posts on here then ordered my 3 month scripts 🙈

I have taken Lansoprazole daily since March to control my heartburn and bile reflux (no gall bladder)- plus occasionally dodgy guts! I also inject Methotrexate (since Dec 2018) I have no side effects ☺
