Part two. Government letter for shielding on line . - NRAS
Part two. Government letter for shielding on line .
Not that one...but I’ve got one addressed to me personally telling me with my NHS Number all over it ....he’s been told I’m extremely vulnerable,& I should only go out for essentials & to exercise!
That was the letter that was sent out in March and then was corrected by my consultant and I was told I wasn’t extremely vulnerable so I wonder which database they’re working from?
I’m just about to reply saying I’m sorry .....but I haven’t got time to be vulnerable ...I’m moving house... and although you tell me I can go out and exercise I haven’t got time for all that....... I’ll be exercise packing.
It would be really nice if they gave us credit for having even an ounce of intelligence wouldn’t it?
Don't feel insulted AC. There are other people who need to be reminded to take strict precautions and the most efficient way to contact them is by a blanket message. If they catch a few less vulnerable people in the net, no harm is done. At the end of the day, you will do what you think is right for you.
Also, don't people who are shielding need a letter to prove it so that they can get food parcels or other help? I'm not in that category, so I'm only speculating. Again, it's better to have a few too many get a letter than too few.
Good luck with your move and don't stress about the letters.
I’m not stressing - just irritated things don’t appear to have moved on at all. I would far rather “ they “ concentrated on sorting out the fine mess they appear to be in, rather than waste time sending such letters. Things have moved on since the letters were composed, & very few of us are as vulnerable as was first thought. I’m sure everybody who has concerns is busy talking to their employer as every case will be different.
There will be no food parcels this time ....I think the money tree is becoming depleted......and from what we read in the press, a lot of the Benefits introduced earlier in the year were claimed by those who not only didn’t need them, but weren’t entitled to them
When I was offered them, I had a long chat with the lady who was phoning people from the Govt provided list , asking if people needed help, & she said they were receiving requests from people who had no entitlement...but had read that Benefits were on offer....which seems to confirm the press was right.
After all, it is our money that is paying for all that was offered isn’t it...but like everything to do with Covid19, it has not been thought through thoroughly enough.
The difference is it's your choice. I feel for those younger vulnerable that feel unsafe at work when the r number is high. Shielding protects them from losing or leaving their job. You can stay at home or go out as you wish, they dont get the choice is the difference. And the world is trying to fix things, testing, vaccines, distancing etc etc. I'm not saying it's good or bad but billions would die if y left this illness to it natural r number so billions of families losing loved ones. I think they have to use whatever poultry methods we have, but those who dont want to have that choice, unlike some other countries .
But from what I read shielding amongst the young is causing more problems than it is solving....they need to take care but try to carry on their lives as near normal as possible...not be encouraged to hide away.
Most companies appear to be doing all they can to keep their staff safe .....after all their staff being at work.....means their businesses can thrive & provide jobs for everybody.
The elderly may be retired & out of the workplace, but they need to lead their lives as normally as possible too.
I added the word vulnerable young !!! 😂
How young were you thinking of? Young or old we have no choice, we all have to learn to cope....no age group is having a good time of it right now.
This situation is going to last for a long time,& I’m sure the decision makers have taken advice from child psychologists as well as from geriatricians ...suggesting how all ages manage to deal with the changes taking place in their lives.
You say you are worried about the vulnerable young....they will hopefully have parents to support & encourage them, both at home & in their education or in a job... I am sure there must be a lot of elderly people who are coping well....but some really have nobody left to even talk to, especially during lock downs when all their social activities are cancelled. Not much choice for them is there.....that can’t be much fun can it?
Well we disagree on the basics!! I say hide, social distance, dont use the itu beds and stress the nhs further . Xx
One day we will agree on something AC 😂 whats your views on the american election ha ha , maybe we shouldn't go there lol xxx
Don’t give it a thought.....thankfully I don’t get a vote!
Half my family & friends over there don’t care either...the other half all think they know who will win....& will scratch your eyes out if you disagree with them!🥺
One has just written they are off to the beach today to get away from all the HooHa!
I agree totally with you Allanah. Totally .. we are singing from the same hymn sheet here. No one is going to want to risk themselves if they are clinically extremely vulnerable. (I’ve been told exactly what I can and can’t do by my nurse and it was exactly what I had been doing or not doing!) There are so many people who don’t want to comply and help lessen the virus that it isn’t safe for very vulnerable people to mingle. (Errr that’s why we are in lockdown again and social activities curtailed and public gathering places closed.) They’ll walk up to you and not distance. A mask isn’t an excuse to get close and talk or brush past you. For many of our fellow citizens this virus is a joke or they’re bored with it. I am not going to take notice of anyone who tells a vulnerable person to take unnecessary risks. Others less vulnerable can do what they feel is good for them, but it isn’t always going to be for the good for others and this is where a huge problem lies, but if people break laws or rules they may find they have a large fine to pay.
Oh and I’m cheering this afternoon. 😁 xx
Yes I've received an email now too. Appears to come from the DHSC and has my name, address and NHS number on it. It does not look quite the same as yours though because mine does not have any signatures on it. But the content was as expected.
I've just received the same as Lolabridge , via email with no signatures.
In fact I would quite like to know where they got my email address from. My GP doesn’t correspond with his patients via email so he doesn’t have my email address so they must’ve searched around somewhere to find it.
I know I've given my email address to my GP for their online service so I'm assuming that's how they got mine. I'm not bothered I prefer it this way.
I’m not bothered..but as my GP doesn’t have it...I just wonder from whom they got it. I wonder if they raided QVC‘s mailing list?
😂😂😂 good luck with your move!
ThankYou....If it ever happens.... I smile every time I’m told this, that & the other can’t happen because of the “safety of our staff.”
I have recently been told a TV engineer can’t come out to fix my TV .....but I was only told that when they asked me to crawl around behind the television and start playing with wires ....and I said “ I’m too old to do that” and all of a sudden he stopped being very helpful and decided that visiting my home would be a death wish to his healthy staff!
I think all these figures saying that everyone over 70 is going to die from Covid is scaring off TV engineers ......they think they might catch it even if the over 70-year-old hasn’t tested positive!
But he did himself out of a service fee .....I read the instruction book and fixed it myself!
Don’t mess with us Negative tested oldies!
😂😂, absolutely not!! It's ridiculous really isn't it..I've had to have some emergency work done in my loft and they've been brilliant, it was annoying me though when you have to ring a call centre and they were still blaming Covid..most companies have made themselves secure and adapted as best they can but not all have been able to do this. I'm seeing so many redundancies because of Covid too, some genuine some not I suspect and just an excuse to get rid of people. Even Rheumatology is still not doing Face to face appointments at my hospital and you have to justify you need an appointment F2F but plastic surgery has been brilliant, all appointments still going ahead or were up until this latest lockdown. Shielding won't mean much difference for me as I'm working from home and had been avoided busy places anyway..will still be walking the dogs though. Good luck with everything 😊
You really have to smile ...As instructed..I telephoned my GP today at 4pm for the results of an x-ray
I pressed number one as instructed for Test Results...only to receive a barked response “Call tomorrow between 1 & 3 pm”....then the line went dead.
Do you think I should phone my friend Matt who tells me if I’m at all worried I should contact my GP... ...and tell him they don’t want to talk to me today?
I think he is living in Cloud Cuckoo Land......GPs are living behind locked doors,& mine has even put a time limit on getting a test result.
I guess it’s all the same if the test results need urgent attention ?
How frustrating..🙄😂 It's a good job you can laugh it off but how ridiculous is this and like you say what if the results needed urgent attention? A friend I was talking to today was telling me about someone they know with MH issues and the duff phone numbers they were given in lockdown 1 if they needed to speak to someone urgently..so much for if they had needed someone in a crisis! Hope you got your results sorted today. 🙂
I had to wait weeks to get an X-ray....which showed I had a fracture.
I am very pleased I shall be moving house soon ....out of the area of the GP surgery I am with ...I am sure the receptionist will miss me ......saying I don’t believe all the fairy stories she tries to fob me off with ....luckily I have friends who can help....but it would cost me a fortune if I had to pay them.
I simply forgot the time today...& didn’t remember to call until after 4 pm. Naughty step for me no doubt?
Funny thing....I’m supposed to call for my results...in Ye Olde Days the doctor called the patient to discuss test results...now they employ security to keep me out......it’s called progress!
Oh no..how's it's doing now? That must be tough going as you're trying to pack up and move?
I totally agree with you about the doctors' receptionists, I had to drop something off on last week in the area they've provided for samples, an elderly man wss there too, talking through the Fort Knox intercom system to try and speak to someone about prescriptions as he had not been able to get through on the phone and couldn't use the online service, the way he was spoken to was awful and was sent away with a flea in his ear. He turned to me and said "this is all so bloody buggered up, what am I suppose to do". I really felt for him, maybe I should have pressed the intercom and said something on his behalf..I don't really know but I so wanted to.
I hope you've got your results now and that all goes well with your move, and thank goodness for your friends..worth their weight in gold.
Nope....can’t get them until after 1pm on Monday...but I’m giving up with GP& going to see the spine doctor.
Do you think my friend Matt would be interested if I wrote and told him I tried to do what he told me to do in his letter & contact my GP, but I did it at the wrong time?
Thankfully I can do something about it...not like that poor old gentleman.... I’m afraid I can’t keep quiet I would’ve asked her how dare she speak to an elderly gentleman like that!
People like these bossy receptions are basically bullies and cowards....if you upfront them they back off because they know the practice manager would hopefully support the patient.
As if everybody hasn’t got enough to deal with at the moment!
Oh that's disgusting treatment. Call anytime and ask to speak to the practice manager . Dont take their nonsense.
I know Allanah..I really wished I'd said something now on behalf of this gentleman 😢 They have a new online service as they scored VERY LOW in their inspection for answering the phone, which is very good IF you can use it. Elderly people can struggle with this and especially if they have no one to help them. I think I will ring on Monday and say what I witnessed and that sometimes they should have more empathy with people especially in these strange times. X
I really wish I'd said something now..I will always challenge them for myself, I may ring on Monday and say what I'd witnessed.
I’d let it go this time...don’t fight some else’s battle after the event.
But both feet in if there is a next time !
I was wondering the same agedcrone. I havnt recd a letter yet this time and they don't have my email address. Ive had no post now for 10 days. Im in Northern Ireland and my friend who works in the main post office said there is supposed to be 124 people employed there. Through sheilding and sickness there are 23 people working in the sorting office at present . She said it will take up to xmas to deliver what they have at the moment, without anymore post coming in! Its worrying as some of my consultants appointments have been changed from face to face, to telephone and vice versa. Im also waiting on a date for emergency colonoscopy. This virus has a knock on effect on everything. When its eventually over we wont know what to do with ourselves lol. Defo treating myself to a slap up meal and a cocktail, (even though i no longer drink)!!
Yes me and oh just had very very long email from Matt Hancock. Arrived about 10mins ago
Glad I haven't had one from Mr Hancock. He'd be getting a sound piece of my mind!
Don't over do things 🌸
I got mine today too
Just had mine too - as before, I don't consider myself to be as vulnerable as they say so I'm going to continue to do what feels safe for me. I am pleased to be able to work from home though but that's just because I'm lucky, not because of official advice.
I got an email version today.
Yep...personal email telling me I am identified as being Clinically Extremely Vulnerable ....NHS number, full name, D of B ....from Messrs Hancock & Jenrick 🤷♀️💤
Me too I got an email shielding letter yesterday
I got one from Matt Hancock via email.
I got the email this morning. It didn't tell me anything i didn't know. It might be useful for if anyone questions me over it.xxx
Thank you for this
I’ve had an email from the gov last night about what CEV people should or shouldn’t do, but this morning on the BBC the guest said we’ll get a letter from our gp.
Not yet.
Yes I had one via e mail last night. Wasn’t expecting that!
Yes I received it by email last night also received letter 2 weeks ago.
yes got mine , going in today to have a chat with the manager she hasd a way to keep me safe and at work (no sick pay left) so i will see what happens later
Yes Allanah I received mine this morning. Keep safe and well.
This might also be helpful for some employees ....from latest Gov. UK advice.
If your employee’s health has been affected by coronavirus (COVID-19) or any other conditions
If your employee is:
unable to work because they are shielding in line with public health guidance (or need to stay at home with someone who is shielding)
unable to work because they have caring responsibilities resulting from coronavirus (COVID-19), including employees that need to look after children
They can be furloughed as long as you previously placed the employee on furlough before 30 June and submitted a claim for them by 31 July.
Good to hear that the English government has decided to reintroduce shielding and furlough. As far as I know there's no mention of furlough for the extremely vunerable in Wales, but there was no Lockdown as such in Wales but something the government decided to call a "Firebreak" which lasted two weeks and ends on monday.
And this for our members who are self employed.
