Taking children out of school??

Hi. I’m on mtx 20mg injections weekly and 200 daily hydroxychloroquine. My husband is going into the office every second day and my kids are both still at school ,which so far is showing no signs of closing.

I’m interested in hearing anyone’s opinion on whether I should take matters into my own hands and keep the kids off school just to minimise contact getting to me ? I’ve already stopped their external activities.

Thanks 🙏

Totally agree. And are we in the category that needs ‘shielded’ for 12 weeks and if so how can that be possible without your whole household ‘shielding’ too ???

Obviously we all have to find our own path through this but personally I'm not classing myself in the "at risk" category until told to by my rheumy. I'm also on Hydroxychloroquine and Methotrexate and had a flu jab...

After lots of soul searching, particularly as my oldest girl is due to begin her exams in May, I have made the decision to take them out of school.

I have RA and AS which in itself may not have been, for me, a good enough reason but have also recently

Been diagnosed with asthma and ground glass in lungs. I am a single parent and therefore, much needed by the girls.

I also believe that the Scottish government are likely to close the schools at the ‘natural’ break in the Easter holidays - can’t see a significant impact of my talking them out two weeks earlier.

I know the school staff on a professional level and have been very open with them. They, in turn, have been super supportive and have agreed to send my oldest girl in particular, course work that would’ve been done in class over the next two weeks. This means that effectively, she can still feel prepared for her exams.

It’s a tough decision to reach and only time will tell if I’ve made the correct decision. I hope so. But it’s also a very individual decision so I’d say speak to your children’s school, have an honest and frank dialogue and make any decision from there.

Best of luck x

Morning. I’m doing the same as of today Eiram50 and my husband is now working from home too. I think the schools are gearing up to close next week so what’s 4 days going to change. Soul searching is exactly right but I also have asthma ( and a cold !) so it’s mummy school from now on. Best of luck !!

The school my boys are in said last night they will close for the rest of this week. I reckon they won’t open again after that or if they do then most parents won’t be sending their kids. I’m in N. Ireland and in the south of Ireland all schools had closed so there has been increasing pressure that the schools in the north should also close. Both my boys are due to sit exams in May so not sure what will happen now. Their teachers had already uploaded all work onto Google classroom etc. However getting them away from PlayStation etc onto Google classroom will be very challenging!

It’s very contrary advice. So we’re meant to stay in for 12 weeks but still get children to and from school :).

I don’t drive so my imagination is working overtime how to get her there and back . Post? parachute?attach her to dog ? . It’s a bit tricky !
