Hi everyone thought this forum would be the best to ask this specific question. ( have GPA vasculitis not RA)
Does anybody know what the likelihood of weight gain is on 10mg pred a day for two weeks before going down to 5 mg daily for a few weeks. ( short course low dose due to my poor tolerance levels and side effects in the past) Starting Azathioprine on Monday.
Many thanks

If you are very aware of not eating anything extra, then there’s little likelihood of gaining weight. You might retain a bit more fluid, so temporarily gain a pound or two bit that should go as soon as you stop. The problem I find is that pred gives me a massive appetite so it’s really hard not to sneak in any extra. One piece of toast becomes one and a half, a bowl of cereal gets a little bit bigger and so on.
Ok thanks for reply. Yes not eating more than I normally do..appetite isn’t great at the moment anyway so fingers crossed weight doesn’t become an additional problem to my already many!!
I would think it's more related to your metabolic rate & if you have hunger pangs you give in to them. Whilst it's true water retention can also be an issue you're going to on it so little time & at such a low dose I would be surprised if it affected you weight wise, maybe a little tighter round your waistband and but nothing dramatic.
I wouldnt worry too much once off it and stabilising is the aim.of the game think of the benefits to settling the joints... short term.pred is not too bad. Remain active eat slightly smaller portions.
