I’m on methotrexate and plaquenil for RA Have been now for 3 and a bit years. Just wondering if anyone has had the problem of a constant itchy scalp ??? Have tried all the usual remedies but nothing seems to help. Wondering if it’s connected to the drugs or the RA?? Any thoughts ?😄
I am on MTX and Arava since long ago. I did have itchiness too. It is one of the side effect of Arava. You can check the link below for details. However, the itchiness lasted for about more than a year, then it subsided. I could only apply some moisturizer and I patted on my hands and legs when they were itched. Nothing much I could do really, since the medicines put me back into my normal life, I just tried to live with them. The itchiness had gone after more than a year of treatment.
Hi Simba, it has been a long long time that I have not been here and FB. I have been very busy traveling and helping out in our general election and the many by-election since last year.
I am doing very well and getting stronger each day. What about you? Have you managed to find anything that can help to improve your condition?
That made me think as I am on Hydroxychloroquine and Benepali ( was on Methotrexate for 6 months before Benepali but stopped as couldn’t tolerate the side effects and it wasn’t holding the RA) and I get an itchy scalp but not constant. It is mainly in the evening and I always assumed as I have very curly hair and smooth it with conditioner it was the conditioner irritating it a little. However, due to a bad flare I had been on an oral dose of Prednisolone and the itchiness went!!! No answer for you, just something I can relate to!
I don't know about itchiness caused by your meds but, having been a very 'itchy' person anyway, I have changed shampoos and conditioners. No parabens, no silicones, no sulphates, no mineral oil and no chemicals frequently used in shampoo commonly called 'itchy Ms' (hugely long chemical names starting with methyl...). I follow something called The Curly Girl Method and it has certainly helped me, not necessarily with curls but certainly healthier hair and scalp and no itching!
