Washing hair with painful hands?

Normally I struggle through but it's getting unbearable. Does anyone have any tips, tricks or tools for getting a good lather close to the scalp when your hands are fubar?

Dry shampoo . I find I can't do it if my daughter is around I'll get her to wash it for me . A spray bottle of dry shampoo is fabulous if you can push the button . If like me I just clip it up and forget it . Sending you hugs cause it's pants when your hair is rubbish . Inside though you look lush xx

Oh I feel for you as I suffer the same and with my recent major flare it reminded me how bad it gets. I have super curly hair too so takes time to lather up and wash out. I haven’t found any “ tools” but I washed it more frequently, albeit each time on a basic level, used my very best fingers to do the pressure bit, let it rinse for long time under shower. I find the thicker, cream type products better as they don’t just slip out of my hands. I have in the past got my local, village hairdresser to just wash and condition my hair and pop some serum in to let it air dry ( I explain about the RA and it’s complications), they only charge £3 and it just makes me feel clean and human!!! They say there are a lot of customers that need that service for various health issues and are very pleasant about it! Hoping you get some relief from the inflammation soon to make it easier to manage these daily tasks!

It takes a bit longer because breaks are needed, but when in severe pain it has sometimes helped me to wash my hair upside down. It lowers the strain on my hands as I dont need to hold them up, I rather bring my hair down to their level, and then I'm able to work up a good lather. Must be very careful with neck though. Depending on how your shower is built, perhaps sitting in the shower and supporting your elbows against the wall could help in the same way. Another option is taking a bath and washing hair while in it, for the same reasons - I find it easier to lather when my hands are not raised significantly.

Thanks all! I've already switched to a shampoo bar because I can't squeeze the bottles. I think I might get a shower brush with a big handle to try and pull it through all the strands

Hi, I get my hubby to transfer my shampoo into an empty pump bottle, find it’s much easier than squeezing 🤗 X

I've seen oval shampoo massage brushes in Boots with finger loops to hook on. Also seen small oval dog shampoo dispensing soft silicone brushes which might be an idea to release the shampoo and massage it at the same time? They were in a Pets at Home and I once thought to buy one but then my hands improved. Have a browse on Amazon and the pet grooming. They are the same soft silicone massage bristles!

I also preferred the press down salon type bottles of shampoo and conditioner so no squeezing. You can get empty ones and transfer your shampoo etc into them.
