Possible Scam via “Chat” or “PM”

I have received a message via Chat from a member “suesuool52”, which involved prayers, conscience, a dead husband, brain cancer and far too much money.

Just letting you know, seems to have come via the Behcet’s Syndrome Society forum, which I now have apparently joined :(

Now off to “unjoin” myself, cheers Deb :)

That's weird. I also had an odd private message a week or so back. I didn't bother answering, just deleted.

I had one too yesterday and reported it

Might be a scam...could be someone who is very sad.

But I would delete it & forget it.

How very odd. I wonder how they managed to add your name to a different forum? Report and delete. What else can you do? Hugs

I don’t know, think I did a search and found a topic, didn’t check where I was in HU, and found myself in some strange, unknown forum, far, far away lol

Interestingly, the message has gone, but now I have a “Welcome” message from the Behcedt’s Syndrome forumfolk, it just gets weirder :)

I have now read it....it appears to be a variation of an old scam that usually comes from somewhere like Nigeria.....it will eventually offer you large amounts of money.

If you reply ( DON't) you are eventually asked to send your bank account details and a sum of MONEY to cover "whatever "??? & told money will be deposited in your account.....some of which you will be allowed to keep.

IT's SCAM.......there is no such thing as a free lunch.......just an emptied bank account.

Please don't reply to anything like this.......it's not something to get involved with.......JUST DELETE IT.

I am sure admin will deal with it & we won't be bothered any more.

There’s no way I would respond to something like that :) I was just curious as to how this individual signed up, and gets instant access to “Chat” without actually posting anything. But, thanks for your concern, that’s nice, cheers Deb :)

If you think about it anyone can sign up here...there are no checks are there? OK it would be odd to sign up to a site like this without having a health problem.......but there are some very strange people around.

Sadly there are many intelligent, solvent people who take a phone call " supposedly" from their bank, & go ahead with handing over their debit card + PIN number to a stranger who comes to their house saying he is from the bank........& are then horrified when their life savings are stolen.

I think the more scams that are described the better.......as a serious warning to never hand over any personal details unless you know for sure who you are dealing with. A phone call cannot do that, nor can an odd letter from Africa.

I got caught out by a crying woman who knocked on my front door, telling me she had no money, & her sick daughter needed her & she needed money for the bus fare to get to her. I only gave her £5, but found out later from the local newspaper she had collected a fair old sum from gullible people like me in the local area!

Live & learn!

These scams are all over the net now. Whatever social media, email, etc etc. There’s always someone wanting to give you millions of pounds or guaranteed cures for all ailments if you just send them your bank details🙄😂😂
