Sulfasalazine

I've been taken Sulfasalazine for 9 months. I finally in the last 3 months got up to taking 6 tablets a day @ 500MG each. 3 months ago I started getting a rash on my hands, then to my shins, feet, & now quarter size areas on my back. Is this from the medication?

Hello DASup, It could be a genuine allergic reaction. Sulphonamides are recognised to cause these. Check with your doctor but I would be very suspicious. Allergic reactions self-cure but can be very itchy.

So even though I had been on it for a 6 to 9 months it could still be an allergic reaction? Good to know.

Yes it could. Allergies do not occur to something new. One has to have been exposed to the agent previously. That previous exposure primes the immune system so that if you then encounter it again, the allergy is an over-reaction by the bodies defences. That is all an allergy is: an over-reaction to something that "should" be harmless.
