Psoriatic arthritis

Hi I have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis in 2017, at the moment I am on 20mg methotrexate with folic acid once weekly & am wanting to try a new approach as the meth has helped with the inflammation but not the pain so I am relying on one tablet of Diclofenac SR 75 mg daily which definately eases the pain. As the meth is quite hard on the system my specialist has introduced sulphasalazine TA 500 mg which I am presently taking 2 with breakfast & 2 with dinner in conjunction with the meth, at the start it made me feel terrible but slowly I am adjusting. The next step will be to cut out the methotrexate & then the Diclofenac to see if the pain stops, will keep you all posted but anyone who is in terrible pain may like to try the Diclofenac for some relief.

Hi Sylvi I think the Diclofenac is a slow release Voltaren so maybe under another name.

Good luck

Sylvi's right. In the UK it is the NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) that is used the least because of the risks to your heart. Others tend to be selected first, like Naproxen. But if it helps you that's good, and especially if you are aiming to come off it as soon as you can.

Have you worked out what is causing the pain? As if it's from active inflammation then perhaps the Sulpha will make a big difference, but if it's from existing damage then maybe need to think whether there's other things you can do alongside drugs to help.

I thought diclofenac had been taken off the market? I try avoid all nsaids when I can...awful on the stomach.

Glad you're feeling better.

I had diclofenac for my tendonitis in my shoulder. When I asked for more I was told I couldn't have it as there is now a link to heart disease, otherwise it did really work for my shoulder.
