Chest discomfort
If you don't have Rheumatoid Disease (arthritis) & if you don't think it could be related to inflammation of the ribcage (costochondritis) please either ring 111 for advice, see your GP tomorrow or if you think you need more immediate help call your out of hours doctor or alternatively have someone take you to A&E. We're not medically qualified here & if you don't have RD we're unable to share our experiences I'm afraid.
You haven't been coughing a lot have you? I hope whatever it is isn't serious.
Hi, I agree with nomoreheels other than chostochondritis which i have and can be very painful it could be a number of things but certainly you need to seek more advice dont let it fester so my advice would be act now
Sorry cant be more helpful
Hi Phil can you tell me the systems of chostochondritis before I was dianosed with RA I had pains in my chest and went to my doctors a few times and was told my xrays were clear. I was in pain coming and going very sore to turn round when I was driving my car that kind of thing. Since I have joined this group and have heard chostochondritis I am wondering If I had it. As with lots of pains I had feet wrists and knee they come and go.
Hi ladyelizajane you are quite right to be concerned any chest pain should be treated seriously i was diagnosed with chostochondritis last year and it is very painful it just comes on with no notice its a very fiery pain and very uncomfatable im just not sure if its the cold or due to stress, i was told by the doctors at hospital that this condition presents itself as possible heart condition but after tests they decided it is chosto, I would certainly go back to either your rheumy or at least your GP and push for more clarification and given that they said your chest x rays are clear then it may well be chostochondritis.
Sorry i cant be anymore helpful but hope things work out for you
Thanks Phil for your reply I really appreciate it.
No worries, Also i should have mentioned chostochondritis is an inflamed cartlidge in the middle of the chest and the doctor treating me during my stay in hospital said it is linked to RA, they prescribed me Neproxen for pain relief which did work a little but i tend to rely on ibuprofen more as this seems to work wonders for me for all pain relief from RA.
Costochondritis is tricky to diagnose LEJ, rarely does it show up on imaging. My h had it, one of his complications after open heart surgery. His Pain Clinic doctor diagnosed it & gave him two or three (not quite sure) steroid injections around the costochondral joints. Quite painful administration even with lidocaine but he did have some relief for a few weeks at least. As phil_54 says always get any chest pain checked out as costochondritis can present itself a possible heart condition, at worst an MI, so you won't be wasting anyone's time if you have such pain in the chest/rib area.
I'm with the others go to A&E and get it checked out darling please.xxxx
I agree with all above. Stay safe and hope that you have spoken/seen someone by now. Let us now how you get on please.
Always tell your doctor about chest pain... but I have this often. They always tell me it is just inflammation around the heart. I have had multiple ekgs and seen a cardiologist.
