hey any other fellas on here with ra? or is it just woman i see a lot of woman on here
hello : hey any other fellas on here with ra? or is it... - NRAS
hello
I think there are plenty of blokes on here, though females are more susceptible to the condition IIRC?
Reply to Annie122: IIRC = If I recall correctly. Okay?
ok. how long do you have ra?
Me = 9 years
a long time ive had it 15 years now
I've also had RA for 15 years.
There's quite a few men here but not many are regular posters.
Annie, are you sure you're one of us...ie..a bloke?
There are some males but maybe the reason women outweigh them is two-fold, it affects women two to three times more than men & men don't tend to discuss their health on forums, though that's a generalisation of course!
Blimey heelsy, being a regular poster here your post has just made me realise that my wife may well have a point when she tells me that I'm well in touch with my feminine side!...and there was me under the illusion that I was a rough tough alpha male. Think I need to take stock.
You're all right wishy, I know you're rufty tufty really... you respond negatively to kisses! No bad thing to be in touch with your feminine side though, as long as your wife doesn't find your size nine skyscraper heels you have hidden at the back of the wardrobe! 👠😜
There are men on here darling.xxx
Yeah a bloke here...men don't seem to complain as much as women. 😗..JOKE ..Readys tin hat.
Female here - ha ha
I think women like to share our feeling whether good or bad. In this way we learn more.
I am a male in my early 60s.
I have had RA for over 12 years, been on a journey through the range of RA treatments. Started on Sulfasalazine, added Hydroxychloroquine and then finally added Methotrexate to the mix. I've only had one steroid injection so have little experience of steroids.
Over last few years I have been on Cimzia and Methotrexate with the addition Hydroxychloroquine again. My RA is very well controlled at the moment on this combination. My rheumatologist was keen to get me on the on biologics and is pleased with the results. However I skipped a Cimzia dose recently and the symptoms reappeared proving the disease is still there.
Yup. I’m a bloke, last time I checked😉😂
I definitely don’t think there are more women with RA but women tend to want to share how they feel. Men tend to keep it to themselves and only talk to professionals. My father had RA and he hid it from everyone except my mother. He was embarrassed that it was so debilitating. I’m not sure of your age but it’s definitely a generational thing.
But we are all here for you. Doesn’t matter the gender. The buggery RA makes us a family. X
It's a fact Jules...for some reason RA really does affect significantly more women than men!
NRAS research shows three times as many women as men develop RA. Researchers are looking into the likelihood of the hormone oestrogen being involved.
