NRAS is pleased to let you know about this opportunity to get involved with NICE. Here is their request:

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) produces guidance on the most effective ways to prevent, diagnose and treat disease and ill health, and provide social care support. Our guidance is based on research evidence and takes into account the views of people working in or using relevant services, and other stakeholder groups.

We are currently looking for patients and unpaid carers, as well as their advocates (usually referred to as ‘lay members’ at NICE) to join the committee developing our guideline on persistent pain. It is currently proposed that the guideline will cover adults (18 and older) with persistent pain.

The guideline will look at evidence in the following areas:

•how persistent pain is assessed

•how persistent pain is managed (including treatment with medication and other forms of treatment that don’t involve medication, pain management programmes and ways to improve the person’s quality of life)

If you are interested in applying see recruitment advert for details of what working with the committee involves, the kind of experience and knowledge we are looking for, and how to apply. Recruitment is open until 5pm on Wednesday 22 November 2017.

We would welcome an application from those who have recent experience or knowledge of this topic and are able to reflect the views, experiences and needs of the public to ensure they are included in the development of this guideline. They need to be able to contribute effectively in a formal committee setting. Our lay members are paid a fee to attend meetings and we cover travel and other expenses.

The public involvement programme at NICE is on Twitter, and you can follow us @NICEGetInvolved.

See the project page on our website for more details about this guideline project, including key dates and relevant documents. nice.org.uk/guidance/indeve...
