Hello, I'm Julie and I'm 48 feeling like 88.
Hurting in Ohio: Hello, I'm Julie and I'm 48 feeling... - NRAS
Hurting in Ohio
I'm Kelly in Texas - and I know how you feel! I'm 51 going on 90
Hey Kelly, which part of Texas? I'm in Plano (suburb of Dallas.)
I work in Plano - live in Keller. Small world!
Wow! π Yes, a small world, but you have a long commute for work. Is your rheumy's in Keller?
No my doc is in Plano. It's easier to see the doc closer to where I work than live. I miss less work time getting there and back. I work at JCP headquarters in Plano - do you? I'd be a really small world
I'm not working right now. For 6-7 years I was full time caregiver to my dad. We moved him in with us. He was 100% immobile and had late stage Alzheimer's. He passed away 3 years ago. Then I started helping take care of our first granddaughter.π
My rheumy is in Allen, Dr. Lavery. It took me 3 months to get into him.
I'm having surgery next week, but maybe after I'm healed up a bit we could get together for coffee. I know there's a Starbucks in the Shops of Legacy. I think that is close to the JCP Corp headquarters, right? If you're up to it I could meet anywhere that is convenient in Plano.
Taking care of a parent is working! That must have been so tough.
I bet taking care of your granddaughter is fun. I don't have any yet.
What are you having surgery for (if you don't mind me asking)?
I'm not a coffee person - but I'd love to meet.
Hi Julie. If its any consolation, you don't look anywhere near 48 let alone 88.
Hello and welcome π
Hi
Yes, totally understand. I overdid things yesterday and today I am 59 going upwards fast.
Hiya Julie, welcome from the UK! Glad to see you're still able to do what we girls do best! ππππ
I am 58 in age, but my body and brain feel like 90.
I have less energy than my 88 year old Grandma did before she passed away.
Is there anything that helps with energy? It's starting to effect my job π’
When I had problems with energy levels I thought I needed more sleep. I was wrong; I needed more exercise. I slept much better and gradually my energy levels returned. It may not work for everyone but it's worth trying.
I started on a good multi vitamin and also a sublingual b12 vitamin. I really notice when I don't take them
My Rheumatologist explained my blood tests to me this way. He said when the ESR and CRP are up, it affects red blood cells, iron, all the B vitamins and your body finds it harder to process what you need from your food.
He suggested a good Probiotic,Mega B multivitamins, Vitamin C, Magnesium, Vitamin E, Chromium, and selenium.
Over time I have added more, namely Ginseng and Gingko biloba.
He also said cut out all dairy, sugar and white flour as they are all inflammatory to the body. He said pot set yoghurts were ok.
I really struggle with that as I have a sweet tooth.
I'm also from OH.I started this RA journey at 50.I know just how you feel.
Thank You everyone! Here's to keeping positive and pushing through! ππΌπππΌπͺπΌπͺπΌπͺπΌ
I am taking mega b's and my rheumatologist said on Tuesday that taking the Ginseng is really good along with all the other vitamins I buy.
Hi Julie and all!! I'm Julia from Montana and I'm 58 and debating if I should say I feel like I'm 98 or feel like a newborn who needs to sleep 20/24 hours. My fatigue has reached an all time high. And we won't even start on the joint pain and shortness of breath from all the smoke.
I know it does get better, when I'm not flaring then I feel like I'm 38 and this disease doesn't control my life.
Here's to hope and remission!!!!
Hi Julie! I am also from OH. I am 47 and have had this disease for almost 2 years. I live in the Dayton area but I have family up your way.
Same here . I try to take every day as a new day . I found that ginkgo bilova helps with my mind and energy . I push myself really hard to walk on the treadmill . I'm in pain but I know I can do it . We are strong !!!! We can do this! Stay strong my friend !
Hi Julie! I'm Lori (Radiogirl) from Texas. I'm 56 feeling 80. Welcome to this great, supportive place!
I see this!! ππππΌππΌππΌ Great place...nice meeting everyone and thanks for the welcome! Well, it's Friday night...Methotrexate day ππΌ I really do dread taking this medication....I will be sick for three days now π± Trying to stay positive & hoping I get used to this??? Do you ever get used to Methotrexate ?
Yes, you do π When I started on it I had horrible side effects. Over time my body has got used to it, tolerates it better now and it has given me some semblance of normal life again.
I inject now instead of pills - that helps a lot, plus I take folic acid (I call it frolic acid!) six days a week - that also helps.
It took months to really settle but it was so worth waiting for.
Keep positive! x
