Sulfasalazine rash

My daughter who suffers from ra has changed from methotrexate to sulfasalzine and now developed a rash on arms buttocks and legs. She has been told to stop medication and given anti-histamine. How long does rash last as very worrying and any recommendations ? Tis

this happened to me also,doctor dbl. my dose and that triggered it .my rash lasted a long time and then all the skin peeled hope yours not as bad.

I had a rash and swollen cheeks. The pharmacist said it could stay in my system for 14 days so I should keep taking antihistamine for that long.

Although not great I.e rash at least I know it is common side effect and will go awa y through time. Thank you

Hi Alib

I too had a very bad reaction to Sulfasalazine. Once I stopped taking it everything returned to normal quite quickly. I am also sensitive to my Hydroxychloroquine and my Benepali injections and have to take regular doses of Certrazine Hydrochloride ( antihistamine) through out the day to stop my skin itching!

I hope your daughter improves quite quickly and finds another DMARD to help.
