Do you mean baricitinib? Where abouts are you in the world? In the UK NICE are currently reviewing how baricitinib will be prescribed for use in the NHS.

Hi

Yes. My consultant wrote it down for me yesterday. I'm the uk.

Hi linziej,

is he going to try you on it? As I mentioned, it has only just been approved for use in the UK and NICE are currently deciding how it will be used. I'm not sure if it is used anywhere else in the world. Tofacitinib, which is also a JAK inhibitor, is used already in the States. Hopefully there will be someone on here who is on it.

Hi

Yes she wants me on it. I believe it is used in other parts of the world. A bit nervous trying something so new.

Hi, I have been on a clinical trial on this drug for 3 years or so and I definitely give it the thumbs up! I also take hydroxychloroquine, Meloxicam and Sulphasalazine- not long been on this one. I was in a bad way when I started on it so do need top ups but I do know someone who was newly diagnosed and only takes this drug on its own so definitely would recommend it. Hope this helps you and wish you only the best.

Baricitinib (Olumiant is the brand name) was recently given NICE approval. It is a JAK inhibitor so not a biologic . JAK is an ancronym for th scientific term for a particular category of signalling molecules within the cell (Janus Kinases) - It was approved just this week so this is brand new news!

We are covering JAK inhibitors in more detail in our Summer NRAS Members' Magazine and there is more detail in the NRAS booklet Medicines in Rheumatoid Arthrits which we can send to you free. Just call 0845 458 3969 to order your copy of the booklet.

Hi linziej, how are you finding baricitinib? I’m in the U.K. I’ve just picked my tablets up and starting them tomorrow.

Hi Bernese,

How are you finding Baricitinib ? My consultant has prescribed it for me, due to Sulfalasazine 2,000 per day no longer effective after 5 year's.

So starting it next month. He says a nurse shall visit me at home to go through everything - which is odd, being a tablet.

I'm a bit concerned, as I when I get stressed , I break out in a shingles rash. And leaflet says one may not be compatible with it.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I’m really happy with it so far. I was screened for TB before I started and was told to stay away from anyone with infections i.e shingles/chickenpox. I would speak to the nurse tomorrow and see what she says. Keep me posted. I hope it works for you if you try it, good luck 🍀

Hi

After an initial good response it doesn’t seem to be working.

Blood results have shown no reduction in inflammation and my platelet levels are over 900.

Back in 2 weeks to see what happens next.

How are you getting on?
