I'm 58 and was diagnosed with RA a year ago. I'm on methotrexate once a week and Plaquenil daily. Since starting Plaquenil about 2 months ago I haven't had any big flare ups so far although I do get a fair bit of pain in my knees especially when I'm trying to sleep.

Hi, I take methotrexate once a week, I started on quite a high dose but it affected my liver so now I take a much lower dose, but it seems to help. I've been taking it now for approximately 8 years.

Do you have it in any other joints?

Hi yeah it all started in my shoulders and then my wrists. The Plaquenil seems to be stopping the flare ups so far. I'm only on 20 mg methotrexate weekly

Hi Sylvia and welcome to the gang. I'm currently on 25mg MTX per week but it is not working quite as well as it could so I'm trying other meds as add ins. Unfortunately, although it suits a lot of people sulphasalazine didn't suit me and I am trying hydroxy at the moment. This horrible disease seems to know when to play up doesn't it? Bed time is a favourite. I hope we lots more from you. Hugs

hi I'm new to this I was on methotrexate one day a week it give me the hang over from hell I took it on a Friday so I could work Monday to Friday but after a few weeks of that I needed my week ends back. I then went on Sulphasalazine 8 tabs daily I didn't see any side effects apart from the absence of sleep but my friends and family did I became bad tempered and easy to annoy. I also had to go for liver function test every 2 week for the first 2 months then tested every month. After my sister suffered liver damage and had to get a liver transplant because a gene defect I decided to talk to my consultant and come of the drugs completely. I still work 5 days a week in pain most of it I try to keep active walking and I have just got a rowing machine don’t know if this is a good thing or not but I’m going to try it anyway. Now the question does anyone know of any diets that may help.
