I googled this a while back and found a site that recommemds stretches. Within a few days of starting these both my tennis elbow and golfers elbow were on the mend. I can't remember the site where I found them but they are very basic. Stretch your arm out in front of you, just below shoulder level. With your good arm/hand, take a hold of your other hand around the knuckles . With your arm straight pull your hand so that the fingers are pointing downwards and stretch for about thirty seconds. Do 3 repetitions several times a day. I do it when I'm watching tv. I didn't think it would work but as it didn't cost anything it was worth trying. It was very painful to do at first but within a week to 10 days there was no more pain. Every now and again it starts to play up and I just do the exercises again and wishing a few days it's gone. There are other stretches that I also do with a small kilo weight which also helps but try the ordinary stretches first. Clemmie
I'll certainly give it a try. If it doesn't work, that could be a case of mis-diagnosis on my part. The locus of the pain is at the bony projection on the top of the elbow and extends from the upper arm down to the little finger whenever I apply a minor strain. Pain is most severe when picking up a load with the hand which is a clue as to its likely cause: ie lifting out several bags of shopping with one hand from the car boot in a single lift and carrying them into house following a shopping expedition.
In any event, many thanks for your helpful description of what needs to be done.
The Tyler Twist exercise was strongly recommended in a New York Times piece about tennis elbow and that has proved to be enduring popular. Some detail and links with illustrations: blog.performancehealthacade...
Some interesting suggestions on physio - thanks!
I've had golfers elbow which resolved after a steroid injection.
The only thing that worked for mine with which there were several tears was a cortisone injection. I have not had any problems since with it which has been great. I would certainly recommend it.
