Just had mine this morning - hope I don't have an adverse reaction to it. I have always paid for have mine as I work in a school. This is the first time I've had it for free....a bit worried about my body coping with it with a depressed immune system due to RA and drugs πŸ€”

Hope it's ok

Working with children risks up. I work in a hospital setting and some of my colleagues refuse to have flu vaccine as they are afraid of needles

I hope they choose to have this year which is offered free to NHS workers as its puts my risk up further as we share a small warm office.

Good luck I have booked mine for the middle of October.

I am on max MTX and rituximab so my immune system is zilch! Never had a problem yet with flu jab. Maybe I am just lucky! Never thought about it til now.

It's not a live vaccine so you'll be fine. As RA sufferers we get them free anyway. My practice nurse will do mine when I next go for bloods.

My rheumatology nurse told me it's essential to have the flu jab especially as our immune systems are shot due to medication. I work in a hospital too, so it's a must!

Had mine last week when I had drug monitoring bloods done & had a bit of an achy arm but my nurse says that's to prove it's working.... don't think so! I haven't had an adverse reaction in over 15 years but not had biologics so my system isn't overly suppressed.

Yes, always have had an achy arm- not sure that it's an indicator of it working lol πŸ˜…

It's because you can more easily pick up flu that you need the smaller dose of the vaccine! Just think how I'll you would be if u feel a bit off just with the vaccine!! Well done and hoe it prevents a horrid flu ! X

Ermmm....why have I got a 'depression' icon after my post NRAS people? I used the word depressed in relation to my immune system? ??

Day 1 after flu jab: haven't even got an achey arm! Probably because my pain threshold has increased since last year lol πŸ˜†

Hi,

You should be ok as flu jabs in the UK don't contain any live virus (it's just the child's nasal spray that is live). I've had the jab the last 3 years and its been OK, maybe a little bit fatigued for a day or two but then I usually feel that way! Might also be worth asking your doctor about a pneumonia jab too if you haven't had one.

It is because of our reduced immune systems that we need to have the flu jab. If we got flu our bodies won't cope as well with it as a healthy person's would so it is important that we have it. The flu jab is not a live vaccine so it can't give you flu. If anyone tells you that they got flu through having the vaccine they are mistaken. What can happen in those cases is that they have got a cold or flu before the vaccine has kicked in. I believe it is 10 days before the vaccine works so any time during that 10 days you can still catch it.
