hi yes ive been taking them for a month.now , its helped with energy levels , ive not found any draw backs yet
I had to go and check to see if i was on this drug and i am. Did they not tell you why you were taken it. I am taking it for Anaemia and they are iron tablets and i on 250mg of them.xxxx
Can make you constipated . Movicol sachets help should that happen.
Otherwise no problems, it is normally prescribed for anaemia.
Yes I'm in them for anaemia all ok x
As with a lot of things I had some abdominal pain, started eating nuts to help my bowels as things ( sorry if you are eating breakfast ) got a bit sticky and difficult to pass. Ended up just taking two per day and that helped. They certainly helped my energy levels as my blood count was below 9 to start with. Everyone is different, we all react differently but the benefits are great. Good luck xx
I'm soooo tired atm so I'm hoping for an energy boost!
Yep, for anemia which often goes hand in hand with RA.
You won't take them long term I doubt. They will test your blood after a bit and all should be ok.

Hi Moomin,
I've been taking them since Nov due to going from border-line anaemic to actually slightly anaemic. I also got a course of B12 injections and the combination of the two seems to have helped energy levels (Apart from the nerve pain and foot drop which have been a major problem this year, but not related to your question) My poo did go very black and different consistency. Last month I thought it was upsetting my digestion as I seemed to be going to the loo far to often. I stopped taking it for a week and have now gone back to 2 a day rather than 3. I'll check the levels on my next blood test and see if I still need to take it. I read in a later post that you may not have to keep taking it so that would be good.
Hope it helps you
Michele
Yep, due to "anaemia of chronic disease", basically due to my RA. My iron is still borderline but despite trying every formulation of iron, including liquid, it disagreed with me, although I do have a GI tract condition too. I've weaned myself off it and my haemoglobin is on the low side of normal but normal enough. I feel remarkably better though. I didn't realise how ill I was until I got better. Hope it helps you too.
Hi me to been on ferrous fermate(iron) for the past 6 weeks, as was feeling terribly ILL 😞, but now my energy levels are better and I to myself feel better. Hope they work for you.
Hugs
Lady B 😊
If anyone feels sick a few minutes after taking ferrous fumerate like I use to, try taking them in between having a meal and a drink, this has worked for me and a few other HU members too.
Thanks for your replies - always a very helpful bunch 😊
Today I got an appointment through the post to "undergo a Upper Endoscopy procedure28th July!
Not so sure I'm keen on that! Apparently they want to see why I'm anaemic ....erm RA?
It says on the letter that I'm to stop omeprazole 2 weeks before - not a good idea if I'm on steroids and etoricoxib? ?
Think I'll run it by the clinical nurse- definitely going to cancel/ postpone this appointment for now.
Hiya Moomin. By arranging an upper endoscopy they appear to be looking for a possible cause as to why you're anaemic, most likely gastro related. Basically they're checking out it being caused by anything internal possibly causing blood loss.
You're asked to stop your omeprazole as it can mask what the problem might be, calming down an ulcer can be one but it could be any number of causes, it makes them less obvious. You may be able to take Gaviscon though, maybe ask your GP about that. My h can no longer take omeprazole or any of the 'prazole' family of stomach protectors due to anaemia following his heart bypass & again following his subsequent sternal & rib cage repair. The reason being he had been prescribed 40mg daily for a good while & itseriously depleted his magnesium, calcium & iron. He tried all the regular meds his GP prescribed but still had anaemia so he had to go to hospital & have an iron transfusion & the following week another iron transfusion & a magnesium transfusion.
Do speak to your nurse about it so you know you're fully informed, though they have given you a pretty quick appointment for some reason.
Hope all goes well when you do have it & it's just to check you out. x
