Loss of interest in food?

Hi all

I seem to have no interest in food. Been on methotrexate coming up for a year and although I'm roughly the same weight I just can't get interested in food in general?

I cook for my family but I'd rather have a bowl of cereal or some toast, is this normal? I love food but I'm not interested in it if that makes sense!

Thanks

Tracy

Yes, this rings a bell for me. I love good food, but I have great difficulty in eating day to day......even fruit is a lovely thought, but often not eaten. Don't know whether it's because of the residual nausea that stays with me constantly.....I'm on hydroxy chloroquine, MTX 20 subcut and humira, or my tummy problems, or depression, or laziness. I also have a web in my throat, so swallowing can be problematic. Sometimes I prepare a treat, and even then can't face it.

If I was losing weight that would at least be a bonus, but no such luck!

I have no answers, would be interested in any suggestions. .......apart, that is, from anyone suggesting a dietary "cure" for RD!! M xx

Hiya, when I was on Methotrexate I had the same sort of problem - & it drove my best mate barmy as she loves cooking & I did not even want to discuss food, never mind eat it. As soon as the Methotrexate was stopped, (coz of other side effects), my eating returned to normal.

Hiya Tracy (or is it Fiona, not sure?). I don't know if you're still on tablets but I struggled with food, in the main of because of nausea until I changed to injections. I do have less appetite the day after injecting but otherwise the rest of the week no problems, not caused by MTX anyhow, so if you are still on tablets it might be worth discussing it with your Rheumy nurse or Rheumy if your appointment is imminent.

It's not the best place to to be in really is it, you need your strength to battle on so I do hope you can resolve this lack of interest in food. I remember my mum often saying that she couldn't face dinner after cooking it & although she was on meds they weren't for RD so maybe it's something else but one thing's for sure you can't continue like this really.... so maybe someone could take the reigns in the kitchen for a while like we did for mum? I think you may need to have a family conflab! :)

Maybe you need to focus on treats and things you really enjoy? A little from time to time. But cooking for others is a bind, and you might need a break.

Hi Tracy: I haven't been on methotrexate quite as long, but I have to admit that it does take some of the fun out of eating. I have been on prednisone and MTX for almost four moths and I HAVE LOST 5 lbs despite the normal weight gains associated with prednisone.

I get that on MTX, sometimes I have a Slimfast because all I can stomach (not from nausea, I don't get that from MTX, I just don't want to eat) is chocolate milk and it has a balance of nutrients.
