Eye problems : I m having issues with gritty watering... - NRAS
Eye problems
I would go to optician or GP first as it may be conjunctivitis. Clean your eyes with cotton wool soaked in cooling boiled water from the inside out. Use a different piece for each eye. Dry eyes can also be caused by inflammation in the body but the optician will tell you if your eyes are dry. I use Lacrilube gel at night. I get it on prescription.
I have secondary sjorgens and blepharitis so crusty dry eyes.
Good luck x
Thanks it's hard work to decide ill go to opticians x
Optician first who will refer you to hospital if needed. Many gritty eyes ( if not red or infected) can be dry eyes which can be a secondary problem to RA and RA meds. Sometimes dry mouth goes alongside it.
Best to go for an eye exam and the optician can take it from there. Let us know how you get on ? XxA
would go to your GP first so he can see if you have an infection in the eye, an allergy or just dry eyes and then prescribe. If that doesn't work then he could refer you to the appropriate specialist. The ordinary optician doesn't prescribe and you can only see an opthalmologist as a referral from your GP
I have it and was told rheumatologist or doc straight away and they will refer you to eye clinic. I have uveitis. V painful. Caused by the RA.
I now have an emergency card for eye clinic at the hospital

I also have Sjourens Syndrom due to RD. It was when I was with my Rheumy Nurse Bronagh that I mentioned the problems I was having with my eyes, gritty under the lids, weepy, sticky, gluey, itchy........I really didn't need this on top of RD. Anyhow, Bronagh diagnoised me immediatly and said that it was a secondary with RD. I went to the chemist and got a spray that I spray on my closed eye lid and it does the trick. I keep the spray at my bedside for early morning use. My optitian also confirmed the Sjourens Syndrom as a secondary to RD......
I'm with the others who have said go the opticians Jo. Could be a reaction to one of your meds or a condition caused by RD. The equipment that the high street ones have nowadays is excellent, the optometrists can gather lots of information & if necessary can refer you to whoever you need to see GP, Rheumy even an opthalmologist at hospital.
I hope it's not as bad this morning & it's easily sorted whatever it turns out to be. x
