I have wear between the 4 and 5 disc in my neck ,doctor couldn't offer any help apart from painkillers.Has anyone got any advice .
You could ask to see a spinal surgeon, but it does seem that they don't usually do anything about wear and tear damage in the neck unless it gets to the point where its causing pretty severe nerve problems all the time, not just some of the time. Thats probably right though, as surgery can be potentially very dangerous. One thing that might help is asking to see a physio and getting help to both keep your neck in the right position, and also develop muscle strength to stop the neck from going out of position and causing more problems.
I found this book very useful (no connection, etc): Treat Your Own Neck by Robin McKenzie
It has lots of advice about posture and exercises.
I also have done a course on the Alexander Principle, and you can find local practitioners with an internet search.
Having the right position of your head and neck can make an enormous difference to the amount of pain you have.
Agree that Alexander technique can be really useful for bad backs of all kinds. Pilates is another one that can be useful. That book by Robin McKenzie is excellent, and very down to earth.
