Does anyone suffer from hydranitis suppurativa as well as r.a

I have had the h.s for a couple of years but seem to get more flare ups since being on r.a meds??was just wondering how other people cope with this

Yes I have it mildly... it occurs mostly when my system is down. I had only abscesses before RA but started getting fistulas after. Mine isnt too bad, although I usually have a small cyst or abscess somewhere in the usual gland spots at any given time.

Im not sure how others with more severe disease handle hidradenitis, I hate what I have and thats not much compared to what it can be. I try not to go on any antibiotics unless one of them gets out of hand. I also have MSSA (not MRSA) which complicates a lot of my operations so I often wonder if thats also something that contributes to it.

Hi thanks so much for replying. I've had hs for about 10 years but only got confirmed after my ra diagnosis. I do not have the severest form but have had many ops to cut n drain abcesses also had pilonidal sinus. It can be very draining along with ra can't it?so glad to know I'm not alone in having both conditions.When I first started ra meds had a few flare ups of hs but consultant has kept me on low dose of mthx 1 0 mgs a week so haven't had a flare for a couple of weeks fingers crossed . I don't have HS but my son does - he's had it for 15 years. Interestingly enough he's on Riflixamab infusion (sp) which is the same drug given to some people with RA.

It's a horrible condition - it's meant that he & his wife are unable to have children.

This disease (or any on these toxic drugs) is so hard on the young ones, I feel for you as a parent trying to help him cope.
