If my methotrexate injection is not delivered on time... - NRAS
If my methotrexate injection is not delivered on time should I take the tablets I have or wait and take injection late?
Hiya Tinkerpeanut. I'd check with your GP or Rheumy nurse. If at all possible it's best to keep the MTX in your system for it to work effectively so don't know of a reason you shouldn't. If you've swapped from tablets to injection because of side effects do remember these may return whilst taking them & ask your GP about maybe upping your folic acid pro tem if he says it's ok.
Is there a particular reason you think your MTX will be delivered late? Apart from a bad bit at the beginning of the year I've found healthcare at home reliable about deliveries. And they always deliver a week before I run out so there is time if there is a problem. It doesn't seem that there've been the problems with MTX deliveries compared to those the people on biologics have had recently.
But always best to ask your own docs.
Anyway, a couple of times I've swapped back to the tablets for a week. For example when I went on holiday to a very hot place and couldn't be bothered to take syringe with me and have to keep it below 25degrees. Didn't seem to create any problems just for a week - as I came off tablets because of ulcers but I seem to be able to tolerate a week of them.
My MTX injections come from my GP & pharmacy on prescription.
It's the same dosage of the drug, just a method of delivery is different. Therefore I would not anticipate a problem, although of course check , and deliveries appear to be ok now. X
