Chest infection.

Hi All

I have a really bad chest infection at the moment which started at the weekend. I feel really ill so didnt take my weekly dose of MTX on Monday. I left a message on my hospital RA help line but havent had a response yet. Any advice please ?

Have you seen your GP yet to get treatment if needed and confirm it is a chest infection. Also dont take mtx until they confirm the chest infection has gone, but do notify the hospital of the infection, plenty of rest and drinks and I hope you feel better very soon x

Hi and thanks for your reply. I cant get appointment with my GP till Friday so will have to hang on till then. Im just afraid of what will happen if I dont take MTX. I still remember how ill I was last year when I was diagnosed and the MTX made a huge difference.

with regard to DMARD MEDICATIONS. if you have a chest infection it is best to stop taking that medication, Try and contact your RA Nurse as there may be a need to change medication. If you need to talk to your GP if your chest infection gets worse

I have a chest infection at the moment and on antibiotics. I have to miss my MTX when I am on antibiotics. Spoke to the rheumy nurse yesterday about it all. She advised that MTX cannot be taken when infection is present. I would phone the advice line again. But until u can see your gp plenty of rest and fluids is what u need. Try not to worry about missing the MTX. I have had 4 courses of antibiotics in 12 weeks so I have been very hit and miss with my MTX and i'm OK.

Hi Trish I have been experiencing shortage of breath recently

So I rang my nurse and explained what was happening and they took me of methotrexate immediately .Got appointment with r a at the end of month to see where we go from here .good luck .ian
