Hi my 12 year old daughter has recently been diagnosed with lupus. Always really fatigued. Does this ever subside - any advice.

Hi what's great mum. RA and lupus ( SLE systemic lupus erythomatous ) I think ! Are similar but I think HU does have a specific site which will have a lot of specific info for you. Otherwise google have lots of more specific sites .

But yes the fatigue in auto immune disease is one of the biggest drawbacks and the hardest thing to fight, your not just tired you are overly exhausted, hope she gets treatment soon Ax

Brilliant , I hope it works quickly for her and she is not so tired and sore during the next few years. Do come on though cos a lot of people here know bits about lupus too xxxx sending hugs to you and your young lady x

there is an organisation called Lupus UK - well worth joining for the information and support. lupusuk.org.uk/

Hi Shawsie, I don't have lupus myself but used to work with a young lady who had it. I think it's much like any of the inflammatory arthritis conditions in that it has periods of flare and periods when it's more dormant. Once they work out the best treatment for your daughter she should be able to live a much more normal life again. She'll have to learn to pace herself as overdoing things can make you feel poorly and expect her lupus to rear it's ugly head if she gets a cold etc. It's tough being diagnosed so young but the good news is they should be able to treat it early and she'll just grow up learning to accommodate it as business as usual. I was 13 when I was diagnosed with a lumbar scoliosis that limits my mobility somewhat and I adjusted quickly and found different ways to do things so it limited my life as little as possible. I think it's often harder for Mum as you always want to take your child's pain away and can feel quite frustrated and powerless. There's loads of info on lupus on the internet - Lupus UK and Arthritis Research UK are both good. Please make sure you look after yourself as well as your daughter xx
